Not with Trust a trader, but have only heard radio advertising from them and not TV adverts as you get with Check a Trade. This sort of advertising is not about bringing work in, but how you use it to market. We have had calls from people that search Checkatrade which we have converted all, it has covered the cost. We use our checkatrade membership on all other quotes, show them where they can find us, copies of our reports etc etc, we don't convert all, but we do convert alot. It how you use it and what you do with it that counts. Just being a member probably won't gain you a vast amount of work alone. :)

i did trust a trader for a year or more, got quite a few enquires each month to which i replied by e-mail and got very little response. i got the impression that it was a bit like yello pages, people who go to it just want the cheapest price the can get,

Having not been with Trust a trader, I cannot comment on how they work.
We have not been contacted by "priceshoppers" that have found us through checkatrade. One of the things customers can feedback on is pricing and whether they feel they have received a value for money service. Again, it is how you use what you have available to advertise with.
