Just cleaned some carpets in a real dodgy area in an empty upstairs flat.
Had to pick the key up from downstairs flat...2 brothers sitting there, pair of slobs, smoking and drinking beer at 9am...(they own the flat upstairs).

Anyway, I cleans the carpets...now that will be £60 please.
He then hands me some paper with a lad's name and address on / phone number and says you need to get the money of him...he's the one that made it a mess !

Told them..sorry thats not quite the way it works ! I clean carpet for you the customer and YOU pay me cash !
So I gets this bull s**t story, we have no money and this guy will pay ?

I've just getting thro to the lad after several attempts and he could'nt hang up the phone quick enough when I introduced myself 

How do you think I should play this one because at the moment I feel like going round and shoving their beer down their throats and believe me I will !!!

I was had like this for £130 last year, some bunny boiler gave me a piece of paper with an email address and a phone number on it. The cheeky tart rang 3 days later and demanded I get myself back there as I'd missed some urine stain or something... She threatened "If you don't get round here now, you won't be getting paid"

I can't repeat what I said to her on here, suffice to say I never went back and never got paid. I wasn't prepared to let £130 stress me out too much and put it down to bad experience.

By all means try your best to get your money, but don't let it take over too much mate!

But, I will say this, revenge is best served cold. And I'm a very, very patient man

Call back tell them you forgot something, when you go back in take a bucket of really dirty smelly water from your tank a few if you can get them in -

Your contract is with the person who you arranged it with in the eyes of the law. Tell them you will pursue at the county court.

Whenever it's even slightly dodgy I mention it's cash on completion and measure their response before considering starting.

I too went through this once, cheque from departed tennant bounced, landlord unofficially gave me his new address but said he owed loads.

I went round there but no answer and in the end just gave up and put it down to experience.

The alternative was to beat the living ....... out of him but decided it was not worth it.

What about small claims court. you have done your bit and you know who asked you to do it.

just get the forms and follow it through.

Revenge will be sweet in time when they think its blown over.

Just write it off, next time you end up dealing with these scum bags give them a wide berth.

Its cost £30 to file a small claim, with little hope of getting it back, I would just let it go, I would be more tempted to put the contents of the waste tank back through the letter box. It is their property after all.

Golden rule, make it a habit, when someone books a job ask;

 'and how do you wish to pay'

Simple line which takes all the ambiguity out of any situation, in this instance they would have informed you it was someone else and this would I am sure flagged up with you that there may be a problem and you would asked for payment up front.

I think you know its unlikely that you will see any payment and by sounds of them a seven day notice will be water of a ducks back.

Try a few door knocks when passing you might get lucky but I wouldn't bet on it.

do this, if you know you will win a  violent encounter then go round and threaten to kick thier teeth in. Ok its not the legal way to do it but its the only way you will see any money.

It`s not just the cheapskates either,I did a job beginning of last week,way out of my catchment area,100 mile round trip,just for a lounge,did the job,oh it`s our daughter who is paying you,has she not said ?

i had one mad lady knock me for £80 a few years back .. turned up to clean this house and went in the front door to be met with somthing out of life of grime..... was fumming so went and got pile broom and swept up ... then got the ninja as far as the front door , went in and presprayed everything in sight lol ... the carpet , ive seen better in the tip but after the clean was gleaming like brand new as they do ...

then the payment part ..... gave the invoice , then she went looking for the chq book in all the piles of s..t around - says ill sign it and you fill in the rest ... nothing strange yet    till she passes me a PAYING in book ,, says sorry love thats a paying in book , so off she go's to find the chq book -- comes back , found it love , hands me it --- sorry love thats also a paying book    now getting angry so says look here's the invoice , its got 14 days , and just to help here's a S.A E to send it back -- left then looking forward to getting money in post


14 days now gone, still no payment    so on the phone and asks if she sent payment -- she chirps up sorry mate not paying as i had my friends round after and they all said the carpet was worse than before you cleaned it ...........................      well after picking myself up of the floor in shock , we then went on to see who can say the best swearing words ... she won lol

so never got the money
