Guild of Master Window Cleaners!!
« on: January 15, 2011, 11:40:04 am »
Does anyone know of this or belong to this organisation?

I've just been on their website and it just looks like another of those certificates for nothing, all they ask for is a copy of public liability insurance and a promise to do this or not to do that??

Nowhere do they ask for experience, qualifications, references, etc.

What's the point?

it cost £20 a year and looks good on web site,  you could join some of the others but a lot ait worth the money,  but some will say they are worth the weight in gold

I assume from a legal point of view it doesn't take much to start one of these up..

I'm going to create one today.. just need an official sounding name and quick website and a nice logo.

I'll charge £15..

I'm not a member of it but i've seen other users with their badge as the avtar, this has escaped you?
I think the point of any association/guild or whatever is that as a part of a collective you can acertain that the individual is likeminded to share information, help, problems etc with other likeminded people in the same industry. In a not too disimilar way to you joining this forum.

I can't believe you never heard of the Guild before Ian!!
The Guild was setup in April 2008 and last year membership numbers exceeded 200, mostly forum members here!

The Guild is not a trade association, but we do have many of the same aims. We hope to help our members by increasing awareness of safety issues (We are licensed by the HSE to distribute electronic copies of their publications on our member CD), we hope to raise standards within the industry (all members agree to a code of conduct when they sign up), and also help our members to build their business with marketing logos for the van/website/stationary as well as a listing on the website which ranks very well in google.

We are much smaller than other organisations like the FED, so obviously don't have the resources to do the kind of work they do,.. but we aim to be more inclusive by being an international association & offering member fees that are more attractive to the sole trader. We also make a point of listening to what our members want, and adjusting our setup to best suit their needs when possible.

We are also a non-profit organisation,.. what little is left at the end of each year from the member fees is given back to the community in competition prizes etc. Jan 2009 we gave away a HXTEL, Jan 2010 an SLX, and this year there is a £500 cash prize for the video competition. :)

Nathanael,

Sorry no never heard of it, I'm in the FWC, but to be honest find that of very little use and have only ever been asked about it once, which was several years ago.
