 My ladders are secured with ladder clamps and its too slow getting them off, I am wfp but need to get on the odd flat roof etc. I have been carrying 2 sets of ladders but as from now will only carry my smaller set of doubles and split them to 2 singles. I`ll ladder clamp one but the other i want to secure with elastic strapping of some sort so i basically unclip. So whats the best type of material to get to do this? Bungees are not quite what i am after,i saw someone with what looked like inner tube pulled tight and he seemed to have to untie each time. I havn`t seen anything that quite fits the job on my travels and thats why i have started the thread as i reckon some of you chaps have this down to a fine art and i dont know where to start looking for basically very thick or wide elastic strapping with a large hook(to clip to the roof rack)as thats what i currently have in mind.. Any suggestions welcome.

I do excactly that..ladder clamp on one end and bungee on the other, works fine for me

Well i am after saving them few minutes and the current set up i have will be getting improved as its not slick enough.

i use a PYTHON CABLE LOCK, Thread it thru the hollow rungs and pull tight .its very quick and i bought mine in BnQ

 Bonus is its locked and cant be got off  by thieves

Im not sure its something I would do but i've seen the odd trad window cleaner driving from job to job with the ladder hung over the load stops on the end of the roof bars. So it only takes a second to put the ladder on and take it off again.

I have a boat so the i knew the  knots

I use bungees but I have side load stops & a rear roller bar.

I used to use inner tubes, very good but perish over time. You cut a 2" strip out of a "large" inner tube, loop it through itself on the inner side of the roof bar leaving a tied on "loop". You then just pull this over the ladders & hook it under the outer side of the roof bar. Inner & outer refers to either side of the mounting leg which holds the bars to the roof. You would still need some kind of side stop though.

although i use my telescopic surveyors ladder more

Keep it simple, just cut yourself some lengths of rope and tie the ladders on to your roof rack, only takes seconds with a couple of good knots, put a padlock and chain on them over night to stop the tea leaves having them away
