we work on the 3 times rule which is the normal with most businesses.  Our employees get 33% of what they do, so basically if he does 150 in a day he gets 50 of it but I pay them a minimum of 60 - they normally do at least 170 a day

Mine are paid a flat rate per hour plus a quarterly bonus.

I went down this route last year, before that they were paid purely bonus, however the negative for them was if they had a really bad week due to snow or similar they were making next to nothing and they weren't budgeting well enough to put something away for those times.

If the weather was bad in the morning they were just knocking off for the day as they weren't making anything, now I pay them for 7.5 hrs a day and it means that if the weather is bad in the morning I just tell them to sit it out until it improves in the day or I get them to do other work.

Their bonus rates are slightly lower now than previously as it's me that's taking all the risk, but they are guaranteed a wage every week regardless.
