A local window cleaner to me investigated this and tried  jeweller's rouge.  It didn't work.

I don't think there's any product that could help to be honest.  When you think about it, it'd have to be something abrasive to grind the glass surrounding the scratches down to the same level; and that's going to scratch.

I hope I'm corrected, but I reckon the scratches are there to stay.

Are they bad?

Very light scratches can be removed using cerium oxide, felt or foam pad and a rotary power tool.
Scratches you can feel with your fingernail are hard to remove with c.o. but they do polish up and are much less visible.

A good glazer will fix it, provided it is not a patio door as they are toughened.

And you should be applying several to your son, for scratching the glass in the first place.
