My phone has gone silent!!!
« on: September 27, 2005, 07:09:09 pm »
Hi Guys,

I seem to be struggling to find new clients, even having truoble getting enquiries through.

I was under the impression that this time of year things start to pick up.

I've done the usual, advertising, in fact I'm waiting for the new publication of Thomson to come out I have I put my first major ad in it this year.Full colour jobbie, 1/4 of a page size.

Anyone go anymore suggestions.

Love Denisexxx :'( :'( :'( :'( :'(

Hi...
Fairly new here, although do regularly read the posts... selfishly tend not to add to them...ho hum, trying to change!.
Anyway, I run a domestic cleaning company in Lymm Cheshire...have done for 2 years. I've found that this time of year things go quiet and even regulars start to count the pennies...Christmas shopping in their minds and all that. I've had 2 clients cut their hours this week...have had them since start, both quoting "I need to cut back" etc etc but both basically saying come summer when they want to spend their quality time with kids etc...guess who they'll call!.  :-\

I just think it's a duff time....maybe chance to add prospective cleaners to your waiting list who are also worried about Xmas shopping!

Hope it soon picks up
Cheers
Lynne

I don't know whats going on at the moment because i am getting 4 enquiries a week and at least one chooses to use me.
I work on my own and clean 8 houses with the odd spring clean a week and i run this part time as i want to be around for my kids.
I haven't made much effort to advertise only in yell.com but slowly i am going to do more as i feel theres alot of potential in my area with new people moving into the area all the time thanks to the new builds.
Good luck i hope it picks up soon.

hi dustdees ,I dont know if this helps i know you only do homes but why not give the one off party cleans .and advertise that its that time of year.big privet homes lots of money vets, lawyers ,they have hollowen partys, xmas partys in their big houses target them.they may want to impress their freinds that they have someone come in clear the table ,washes up puts things away while their sitting in the other room having drinks. or they have a meal at home then on to a show when they get back hey! PRESTO ITS ALL DONE draw a leaflet or letter up to send to their places of work or advertise in their trade mags. i am sure things will look up soon ,chin up ;D

What a great idea!

Play on peoples 'snobbery' I'm sure it will work.

Ooops! I sense a little paranoia creeping in here. It's best to just read what I've actually put instead of what you think I've put.

Let me explain what I mean..................when I say "What a great idea!" , I actually mean "What a great idea!".

I also think that pitching yourself to other peoples snobbery is also a great idea.

Blacksheep, it was you who said 'They might want to impress their friends' and you are absolutely right.

No-one actually wants to pay for someone to come and clean up after a party BUT they DO want their friends to know that they can and they WOULD be prepared to pay for that.

That is what they are 'buying'.

It's called 'selling the sizzle - not the sausage.'

I've said elsewhere, in the commercial sector no-one wants to buy a cleaning contract - they want to buy a clean building. There's a difference.

Apology accepted..........

Selling the 'Sizzle, not the sausage' is one of the basic principles of selling anything.

NOBODY wants a sausage, they want the sizzling sound, the aroma, the whole barbecue experience, the sunshine, the fresh air - NOT the sausage!

Nobody wants to buy a cleaning contract, they want to buy a clean building, the compliments from their staff and customers, the enjoyment that working in a pleasant and clean environment can bring!

Do you see what I'm trying to say here?

When you're selling anything the most important thing is to find out what the guy REALLY wants (not necessarily what he says he wants) and help him to achieve it.

Look around his office. Has he got photo's up? What are they? Are they his kids, wife, boat, dogs etc. Talk to him about them. Does he realise that he can spend more time with his kids/boat/dogs if he isn't staying behind at night worried that his cleaning is getting done?

hi cms, i can see what your saying but i have never heard of office staff cleaning upafter themselfs ,they feel its benith them ,even if they do it at home which is a different matter. its trying to sell something to a man who already gets it from another company, how do you get him to come over to you? and dont tell me just tell him i want to do your cleaning, tell me your spill/the way you put it across, the words you use. i dont want much do i lol ;)
