How long to get delivery of hotwash?
« on: January 04, 2011, 04:58:18 pm »
I ordered a hotwash off peter on 22nd of December (In the evening), I was hoping it would get despatched either the next day or definitely on the 24th. Now I am sure it said it would be sent by a 2 day courier. I was really hoping it would get here last week, But was sure it would be here today, But no sign yet. how long has it taken for anyone else to get delivery?

Hi Chopsie it would have been sent on the 23rd if you ordered it on the 22nd at night.  It would have been on my next day courier service, but at the time things were still not reliable due to the weather leading up until then.  I don't think the couriers are back from holiday until tomorrow, well they are not up here.  What name is it under and I will chase it up tomorrow?

What about getting your bits in order? You need a gas bottle, some means of securing same and some bits of pipe.If you have these it will save time.Do you want us to got through it with you?

If you could go through what i need then great please. I have a propex heater in my van so it does not freeze at night, S0 will be using the gas bottle (which is secured) for it. I had it in my head i could use the regulator but it will be on the heater pipe wont it (what a wally rodders). So need regulator, length of gas pipe (unless it comes with some like L5?)'
What else is needed please?

Other people please feel free to chip in.

They do regulaters that feed two things, they might be called a twin or something, i expect that is what you need.

As for lenghts of pipe i have used several. To start with i used hoselock and garden hose.On exit from the heater this used to balloon up and explode.I then used car heater hose. This was okay but hard to work with.

When i started a two man set up i had problems with 'sucking in' of pipes.(i was sucking rather than blowing)

What i have now may not be applicable to you but the list is.

To heater cold feed from tank garden hose hoselock
Heater exit; shiny metal flexible threaded connection to 6" white pipe that takes little inserts, to

Tee piece of white pushin pipe, short lenghts coming out to elbows, to short lenght of white pipe.

This is then pushed into some really thick blue pipe that has a white inner- this is flexible and you can do anything wiht this- this blue pipe peter may sell i don't know-.The white push in bits you get from a builders or plumbers merchants.

To finish blue pipe more white pipe shoved in, then to a push in connection that screws to pump.

If you are one man, then flexi metal bit, with white pushin shoved into blue pipe, short lenght of white shoved in at other end, then push fit into screw on connection to pump.

Others will have different ways of doing it.The simpler the better, but remember you may need to disassemble if it gets cold.
If you are two man and plan on putting the heater before the pump it must go as low as possible. If the heater is after the pump this doesen't matter so much.

If you have a gas tank with regulator fitted , in the hose from the regulator
you can put a gas fitting that you can split (sort of like a small brass hose lock thing). Any way use this then when you have finished for the day with the hotwash instead of changing regulators , TURN OFF gas split the hose and reconnect the hose to the night heater. It's a 2 second job to split and reconnect. On 1 pipe have a female fitting ( the Regulator pipe)and on the other 2 pipes have male fittings

Hope that makes sense lol

So when the push comes to the shove you shove the white pipe in the blue pipe and insert the plastic and shove it up the end whack some ptfe tape around the threads, shove it all together with the grey pipe connected to the yellow pipe and the hoselock connected to the garden hose, shoved on the twin bit oscillating regulator thingimyjig shove that on the gas bottle stick a flue on top with sticky backed plastic cut from a fairy liquid bottle stuff it all in the van secured with blue tack, white tack and a spoonful of tickytack. Light the blue touch paper and shove your fingers in your ears and run like hell ???

Where do you put the blue peter pipe again? I might have some I prepared earlier.  ;)

If you want to run 2 things off one gas bottle but only 1 at a time then:

Gas bottle > regulator> 20" pipe then cut and fit >male fitting
on the cut bit of pipe fit female fitting>pipe goes back to heater 1
New pipe starts with female fitting > pipe goes back to heater number 2

the fitting are like these> http://www.gasproducts.co.uk/acatalog/Quick_Release_Nozzle_LP_1_4__BSP_Male__x_8mm.html

There is more than one way. The push fit white pipe is good, the blue gives flexiblity.

The main thing is he has the bits ready when he gets the heater.

If one man op it's dead easy. From tank to pump, from pump to reel.

Hoselock is the easiest, but the water is hot.Thats why the metal flexi length is a good idea.

the instructions are a nightmare, (made in china i think) found out it takes 2 fat "D" Batteries. under neath is 2 water ports with 1/2" threads so make you get right tap adaptors.

then there is a gas port, boil water and dip your rubber pipe in it, that will enable you to fit it onto the big port.

then attach a jubilee clip on to it, then attach the other end to your calor propane gas bottle. make sure you buy a regulator off ebay with hand tightening nut. lot easier than one you need to tighten with a spanner, this will help when you need to bring it in at night.

then there is a grey box which has off or on. i presumed this was the on/off switch. but its the battery housing, unclip it and insert your batteries.

and for some reason turn to off to hold them in place?

for some reason mine only ignites when one of the 3 dials is set to summer as opposed to winter?

this is fine for me as its red hot coming out anyway.

the other 2 dials are marked gas and water, and you adjust accordingly.

also there is a drain plug you use to empty all water to protect from frost. but make sure you disconnect all water pipes too,

sods law now its mild for me! at least its ready for next year. then again where not out of the woods yet!

just reading through a cleaningspot catalogue today - 2 man hot water system only £3000!!!!

It has given heavy rain tomorrow, Would be ideal if it came then. I could then sort out what i needed while have the heater for reference.
My initial plan was to hook up cold feed from the pump using normal hosepipe, Then from heater to reel using hosepipe again, But if that never worked I have a washing machine hot feed hose (read that they work?). think I need some hozelock fittings for the heater possibly?

I am one man by the way. Is the 'metal flexi thing' one of those flexi hoses used to connect taps under sinks/baths?

i went to wickes to buy my pipes, elbows, tap connectors and noticed the grey 15mm piping was cheaper than the white, which i had used before. anyway i found it to be hard to cut and had to bite the ends back to a circular shape. also i found the pipes dont need inserts in them.

make sure you put ptfe tape around the water inputs on the heater before you mount it. as its very hard to it upside down and in a confined space.  ;D

one of those pics posted of a fogwash looks quite complicated. all i bought was 2x 3 metre lengths of 15mm piping, 6x elbows, and 2 tap connectors.

but depends what piping you use from your pump, or di barrels.

cheers for that dirty windows, sounds a bit of a nightmare. I hope it does not always come out red hot or it will break the windows.
I have patio gas bottle that has an easy fit/unfit type adaptor.

chopsie what you had in mind will work.

Yes the metal flexi is what goes on taps, the thread is half inch, the same as hoselock use to put a male exit on.

Hoselock will work.

To make it more complicated for you i have a tap that takes the water back to the tank. This is a good idea but not crucial.

If you ever need to apply PTFE tape to a thread that is very hard to get to, you can buy PTFE paste, usually referred to as jointing compound. Just as good if not better. ;)
