As the message ask's this one is for all the newbies on here. In these difficult economic times how are you finding it?
How have you found canvassing?
Knocking or leaflets?

I think there are alot of 'old timers' on here  (no disrespect) that have some excellent advice, BUT I also think starting up 'NOW' is a little bit different to say 10 years ago.

What have you done and how is it going?

i started last may, and treated it like a part time business,  have only knocing in 3 big sessions and always picked up work,  got rounghly about 240 custy, plus some i sub out   but have dumped about 60ish custy (bad payers, pains  etc)

there is loads of work out there,  just got to knock,

Round building going great thanks going to concentrate on 'filling' it out so it is more compact and hopefully add some bigger domestic jobs.

Glad to hear things are going well,i dont envy you the old canvessing to build up the rounds.

It has been 10 years since i have had to do that the best way is to door knock like you posted and if they are not interested leave a leaflet, leave a leafet at the not at homes and make a note of those and call back later,

That the way you build up compact rounds, takes you back to your youth i bet all that door knocking.

This has just answered a big question shall i get big van kitted out and grow into it or a small van with basics.

GET THE BIGGEST VAN you can buy and water tank (within reason lol) Saves upgrading later and having the worry of your payload.

been knocking and leafleting for 3 weeks now seem to be picking up a good days work  a week
but its not enough to pay the bills yet so will have to get a part time job in the new year probably 3 / 4 days a week giving be  time to keep leafleting and gradually build up the round

was considering going to the rock / roll office  and see what if anything i could claim ive been paying my bit for the last 22 years but ill probably get squat and i dont think i can be arsed with a thousand questions for a few quid

its hard starting from scratch but hey ho it was my decision to jack in my job and give it a go

u wont get jack of the dole, as u r leaving a job,  as they wil prob stop ur WTC if you get them,  just do it part time till you can afford to jack

hopefully you will get a better response in the new year AND referals will start also.
I did at least 500 leaflets per day for the first month all delivered by myself. If you just keep on putting them out its amazing how the jobs start rolling in.
I leafletted areas once a week. to keep it a little more compact when the jobs started to come in.
Have some streets now with 10+ with lots of 3  and 4's all together.
Keep at it mate it will come good given time.
