lowest temp (in shade) for W.F.P?
« on: December 23, 2010, 08:13:45 am »
okay the title says it all.

Im just wanting to know what is the lowest temp you can use water fed pole at?

Before you all start luaghing at me thinking this is obviously 0c (freezing point) is it really? or can you get away with -1 perhaps, or even -2?

I know the wind chill factor as to be taken into consideration. so for sake of aurgument, lets assume were basing our thoery on a still day (0mph wind)

Regards g.b

also for the sake of aurgument lets assume were basing our thoery on an average, un-central heated 3 bed semi.

You should try on your own house. I think -2 is workable but maybe not too safe as the water will freeze on the ground which is colder still. At -2 I found the upstairs fine, but the downstairs windows have already got frozen water on coming from the upstairs drips etc. They need a good scrub to clear again. 0 degrees is not too bad at all in comparison, put some rock salt down and away you go.
If I was the customer and the WC was leaving the windows frozen over I would not be too happy.

-2 is probably workable because the heat from the house isnt it!? as its been discussed before!

I know what you mean about upstairs fine but downstairs freezing from waters drops  :-\ i just assumed they must be frozen upstairs too but i coudlnt tell if upstairs was water on the glass or ice! hope that makes sence!?

Thanks.

mate look at the number of days you cant work each year because of the cold

its really easy to catch up the lost money usually done by jan aways done by feb

the weather is a nusance but it shouldnt cost you lost revenue

you need to look at your working method rather than try and work in minus 0 degree weather

We worked yesterday at -4 with absolutely no problems, just a bit slower as 5 inch snow on the ground.  Today the first cleans were at -6 which was ok, and when as the day warmed up got like normal.  I think we could work all day at -5, but it is borderline.  Somewhere around there and lower the van inside starts to freeze up and i start to worry about the R/O filter.

We use a hot water system heated with LPG.

i think the wind chill has a big part to play as my cold system was ok at -4 for half hour, put pole in the van for 5 mins with heater blowing and carried on for another half hour. pain in the a but i`ve been earning money. def hot water for next year though.

It's random. There is no set temperature.

I've worked fine at -4 or so.
But i've had it freeze solid at -1.

If you can catch up then you are not working hard enough the rest of the year as you have so much slack.

Very good point! i have personaly got plenty of time to catch up because ive not got a full round (and never will have if i spend all day on here  ;D)

but for those who have full rounds its surley impossible? unless you do saturdays and sundays, assuming you dont work the weekend already!

also i find that in subzero temps water tends to still freeze on the fames and sills even if it doesnt freeze on the glass!
Im assuming this is because the frames and especially the sills arnt getting any heat from inside the building!

work smarter not harder hey alex? i agree! its not the amount of work/hours you do after all is it, its the amount of money you earn!

as its been said before, anyone can be a busy fool. and its the busy fools who end up devaluing this trade
