Water Timmer

For those of you that have hot water in a tank, could you leave your flow controller on and use one of these timers to switch on the flow every hour, and pump water back to the tank and then switch off to stop freezing?

i think i'll go down the immersion heater route next year and will set it up so the pump
cycles for 5 mins every 30mins the heater is on to mix the heated water.
