« on: December 22, 2010, 02:28:16 pm »
Hello peeps.
Just doing some thinking, when i start up i dont want to be doing anything illegal or somthing that i can get done for.
so i would just like some help from some of you nice established guys out there so i dont run into trouble. :)

I need to register as self employed. what dose this involve?
I know about public liability. (but do i need it?)
Do i need to insure the van as a business van?.
Whats the best way to tax everything? if i was to collect cash in hand? How and when do i pay for the tax?

cheers guys   ;)

cam i give good advice, just the manor it comes over people dnt like, but hey alan sugar did not get rich by being nice...

you will need to ring the inland rev and ask to reg your business name from what date you intend to start.

you will need pub lia insu, go to simply business on line, everything there, advise them goldoak window cleaing tipped you off , we both get 25 quid, cnt be bad..

yes you will need business insurance , if you dnt and you have a bump say going to your missis in the van, they wont pay  out as you'v used it for persnall not  business.

2 million pounds will be more than enough for you to start out pal,

hope that helps. anything else fire away

better than all the rest

I need to register as self employed. what dose this involve?

register here    http://www.hmrc.gov.uk/selfemployed/register-selfemp.htmI know about public liability. (but do i need it?)   get a mil to start off with  about £60 a year,  go to simply business.co.uk and join thereDo i need to insure the van as a business van?.

when insureing a van they will ask you what u will use it for and most will it insure it as a business, as long as they know you are a window cleaner

no but if you put 30% away  you should have enough to cover the tax bill and the half you have to pay,  plus might have some left over

when u do your first years tax,  u get a bill say £1000,  u then pay this and half of it on account (1500) for the following year, so you are always half  a year ahead, unless you ahve a really good year then u get to pay more

Basic rate

Tax is payable at the basic rate of 20 per cent on taxable income up to £37,400.

Higher rate

If you have more than £37,400 but less than £150,000 of taxable income, you will have to pay a higher rate of 40 per cent tax on the amount above £37,400 and below £150,000.

Additional rate

If you have more than £150,000 you will have to pay an additional rate of 50 per cent tax on the amount above this level.

Then you shouldn't run into too many other wc'ers then.
Tax rates for SE are no different to being employed, so why are you surpised? All we do is pay it at different intervals.
