Thanks for your reply I've got gardiners 54 slx but found the carbon fibre to fragile have replaced six sections this past ten months only use it half a day each month. The pole you recomend how long have you had it as I've read that they have had problems with the new clamps keep sliping. due to the compound they use

Do you mean SL2 (superlite modular)? they don't make a 54ft slx.

I've been using my 25ft slx every working day for nearly three years with no sections replaced.

Or you could try the CLX (carbon/glass mix) not as good as slx but cheaper & many on here seem happy with them. ;)

I bought an X-tel and used it for just under a minute.

Literally one window and I knew it was too heavy and so bendy it could have been made of rubber.
Absolute rubbish!

You won't need an 18ft pole if you get a 25ft slx. Short closed length with lateral clamps. Light, rigid everyday pole. I have an SL2 for work above 30ft, apart from that, the slx is the only pole I carry. It does everything from ground to 30ft. ;)

ive had my extel now 3 yrs, not bad for the price, only problem is the clamps slip around a bit as they get thinner from friction and sand and dirt wearing away, is that the same with those fancy poles?

most prob get some carbons when ive paid my biz loan off though, l love carbon!

got a carbon subframe on my dh mtb.

Thanks for spending the time to reply to my post will try my brodex 27' and take sections off to make it an 18' great tip by the way will also buy the slx as I need 2 poles one for the guy who works in the other van. will give him the brodex
with squash ball at the bottom section he worries me with the steel end cap may crack a window.

raced a couple a times in 97 and 98 got 2 fourth places in my 1st race (mbuk festival in brighton) rode a proflex with 2.5" travel.

now i ride a scott hi-octane (10" travel) just go up cwmcarn in newport couple of times a year, (awesome place)

did race there 2 years ago and girls and people on hardtails were beating me! so shaming! and i wouldnt consider myself slow or scared of high speed, at least i had a laugh though.
