Diesel Today £1.46 a litre ....
« on: December 17, 2010, 12:29:04 pm »
In my area of London, the highest its ever been.  :o

So much for Camerons promises about fair play on fuel duty.

We have to pass this cost on so our charges will go up.

how much does it mean we need to increase prices though? i'd be interested to know how much people are spending extra a week because of fuel. when you consider how many jobs you do etc i'd have thought it's a small increase of say £1 per job.

Any increase on our prices are going to have to reflect many variants and not just fuel/vat increases.

Trouble with oldies like us   ;D    is we still think in gallons and over £6.00 per gallon is horrendous ;

Trouble is we in the uk put up with all this tosh from politicians, the David camerons and co do what  they want to do once they have been elected. They promise this and that and never deliverer ( false advertising comes to mind )

If we lied like they do we would be foul to trading standards and the like, so what makes them different? ( they are no better then enterprise cleaning) a load of bloody crooks and liars

Ok my rant is over for now

But surely you can only start to calculate what to add onto each job if you have a strict  and I mean strict pricing policy, ie everyone pays exactly the same per sq/ft as anyone else.
Back in the real world (and I wouldn't expect many of you to admit it) we all arrive at a property with a set price per sq/ft in our minds, but depending on what is sat on the driveway, where the property is, the type of property we adjust our starting bid accordingly, and take it from there.

So how can you calculate how much to put onto each job because the price of diesil has gone up 10p a litre.

i guess that's kind of my point. complaining about fuel price increase seems a bit daft imo as it probably doesn't effect the price that much (i was asking how much so i could remove the word proably). as you say a lot of people go on what the expect they can get, so nothing really needs to get passed onto the customers.

Our costs are not huge but If you want to maintain your profit margin you would need to take into account an increase across the board, if you don't your profit will reduce. It's also worth considering suppliers will start to reflect increases in delivery cost so we will likely see an above average (2 - 5%) increase in chemicals and sundries. These little increases we may consider we can absorb but there will come a point in the next 12 months when you maybe grateful for a small increase now. Reflecting the market and adjusting prices reactively if things get worse may not be the best policy where as making an increase now and planning for the next year might put you ahead of the game. I'm sure other costs will rise too, it's ok to be competitive but without profit I'll be standing still, skint and tired.
