Another waster today
« on: December 16, 2010, 07:35:20 pm »
Did a first clean on a large house with big conservatory on Monday. Customer calls on Tuesday and says there are some marks coming down on two windows from the frames.
Before the first clean I had spent a while educating this new customer about wfp, and that I am only looking for regular customers, either four or six weekly cycle. "yes, no problem, four weekly is great"
Anyway, go back to the house first thing today and the marks were tiny runs that you would get sometimes after the first clean on wooden framed windows. wiped the frame and cleaned again, perfect.
She just sent me a text "windows are perfect, thanks, will call you when we need you again"
Eggs...?

I charge 50% extra for first cleans now because even if they cancel after initial clean at least you earn a bit extra for the time  8)

Yes, I charge double if they haven't been done for a while but it's the pricipal. She has obviously lied through her middle class teeth about wanting a regular service in order to get them straight for Christmas! If she had said can you do a one off for now and maybe again in six months I would be happy, it's the deceit that bugs me. It's like me charging for something but not doing it as agreed.

had a posh bird phone me up the other day i went and priced it up today and left a message on her answer machine.i think she wanted her windows done for xmas but she understood i was too busy to fit her in so shes penciled in for second week in jan.£20-first clean and £15 every 8 weeks after that.

any new enquires about window cleaning just book them in for the new year then you know they ll probably turn into regular customers and not just after a xmas clean!! ;) ;D ;D

If/when this happens to me I always point out to them that they agreed the price for cleaning at a regular interval, and that by cancelling they have obtained effectively obtained a cheaper price by deception.

It does bugger all good and you won't get any repeat custom from them, but it sure as hell makes me feel better.

Reply- "don`t bother".
Or "don`t call me; I`ll call you".  And I can think of a few names.

Principal is one thing, making money is another.
If you have time to fit these extra's in before Xmas (without letting down existing regulars) then you have made more money than you planned to.  :)
Even better if you put on a first time clean price.  ;D
At the end of the day you are better off and not worse off even if they don't come on as regular.
If you really didn't have time to fit them in and existing regulars have been let down, then think carefully before doing the same again :)
