New Transit mk 8
« on: December 10, 2010, 08:39:07 pm »

The  next generation of Transit will  be out in the next 18 months , they are furthur splitting the range much like Mercedes have done with the Vito/Sprinter  , the Front wheel drive smaller ones will look totally different to the rear wheel drive ones.
There is also talk of a 230ps /6000kg gross weight version , great for the TM guys

I wonder if they will change the cab layout.

I am 6'4" and have always preferred the sprinter for comfort.

It's fine when driving the transit, not so good as a passenger.

Pity too as we have Ford dealer in town and would make servicing way less of a pain.

Looks like their going back a variation or two, which suits me because I think the current model is a bit 'lumpy' at the front.
Love the way the wording at the bottom says not be to shown on any other website other than ...... ;D oops

The Titans 575 and 875 look very nice Derek, the consistant heat imo is the greatest selling point.

The problem with Transit's is they become rust buckets after a few years!

I have been reading reviews on lots of vans , the worst ones are for VW crafter , google them .

It strikes me that ANY van , once out of warranty is a potential liability and you need 1-2 grand sat waiting for a breakdown which can randomly occur at any time regardless of how it is driven , all makes have injector, electronics, air flow meter, dual mass flywheel , and gearbox issues. Lots of these issues are related to components fitted to lower emission in some way or other.

As for Transit rust , I regularly see brand new ones on transporters heading out of Southampton docks with rust marks seeping out of the sills. It was explained to me by a worker at Ford that for less than £200 they could stop them ever rusting , but then who would buy a new one.

Your right with the issue jason as i am alredy putting money aside for the future and if not il replace the van again.

Thought the vw would have been a good buy mind but as you said its got problems..

Ive never leased a van before, but leasing is a good option if you can get it at the right price, you always have a new van and no worrys with repairs some leases cover everything even tyres. Loads of businesses do it. I looked in to doing it with a new transit a few years ago and got a price of about £390 pm but thought it was expensive, never shopped around though.

Must be some very good deals available in this economic climate. Whats everyones thoughts on it?

£390 a month is nearly 5 grand in a year ,  I know some  like the image of a new van etc ,, I have only once bought a new van on a  lease , never again . I would rather pay out on my personal car . Cant see the point driving a 15 grand van and a 2 grand car I would rather it be the other way round.

For the 5 grand on a lease for the year , you can buy a van outright for 3 grand ,and have 2 in the bank for in case it goes wrong , it really is a lottery as to whther they break or not.  The 3 grand van will always last 3-4 years , by which time you are well ahead vs the cost of a lease.

But for knowing where you are with outgoings a lease/hp is best , unless you get hit with damage fees when you return it, or have a downturn in work  ,and struggle to keep up the payments.
