alltec shock
« on: December 10, 2010, 03:23:28 pm »
on tuesday my waste lid cracked after a few years of vac pressure, so rang alltec for a new one, got the bill today £53.02 with vat and carriage £66.41, i can't believe it's so much for a plastic lid, at that price it should be bomb proof.

just the suction on it from the vacs, thats all, for that price they should last for life.

Clinton, I put the machine up-side-down to get at the pump to change the plunger kit.

I lost control and the lid took a rather large hit!!!! School boy error :-[

I've got to ask, why didn't you just go to halfords and get a glass fibre repair kit?

To be fair to Alltec even though its only a peice of plastic they will have had to have it manufactured. They make their own machines as opposed to just buying them in from the states. To get a plastics company to tool up to produce what would be a moderate amount of product is very expensive.

The price for the lid seems in line with other machines that have Perspex/plastic type lids unfortunately.

The worst price I ever saw was the old prochem galaxy. It was a huge lid with a proportionate tag.

I think we all forget that there aren't many carpet cleaning machines made.  A piece of moulded plastic has to be made with tooling that can cost thousands to set up, so if the number produced is very small, the cost per finished item will be high.

You could buy a plastic bin for £1 in a cheapo shop, because there are millions of them made in the world.

£45 plus vat, the real cost of this item, is probably almost a non-profit sale for Alltec when you take everything into account.  They're not Tesco, they haven't bough 5 million of them.

Amtech are so impressed with them they are looking to switch to these for future machines.

Total cost approx' £25

I managed to fix my lid today with Araldite.  :)
