Gazza dont let them get to you mate i dont give a damm about all the negative comments ive had ........ ive made £800 since monday using my immersion element since MONDAY it dosent burn the tank its not on long enough,it hasnt blown up,,,i havenet called the fire brigade ..the 3kw heater ive bought for the back of the van is probally more likey to cause concern......and it has a thermostat which can be turned up or down........ so let them spout all the negative crap mate if they like to come on here and spout of about health and safety issues the very same bunch of people who have probably also voted on crap about ladders,,,,,conkers in schools ,can salt paths etc etc ....... let them do just dont respond....... if they have such a problem why do they comment??????? if i didnt like something in a shop i wouldn't go in and purposely abuse the shopkeeper about how much i hate it or think its a bad idea but mate some people love confrontation and also like to make commentS thats are not even constructive. If i dont think something on this forum is a good idea and there are millions i dont make some crap comment and try to knock down the very people im supposed to be a comrade with ......so gazza chin up mate over your head do what i do leave them all to it :)

ALL THE PEOPLE WHO HAVE SAID " ITS RECKLESS AND DANGEROUS ETC ETC ETC  WHY ? YOUVE STILL PUT YOURS IN  ..SO I HAVE SO PLEASE AT LEAST ONE OF YOU WHO HAVE LEFT NEGATIVE COMMENTS WHY ? WHAT DO YOU GET FROM SAYING IT? WERE ALL SUPPOSED TO BE IN THE SAME PROFESSION? BOAT? I UNDERSTAND YOU HAVE AN OPINION BUT IF YOU THINK WHAT SOMEONE ON HERE DOES IS NOT WHAT YOU WOULD WHY LEAVE A NEGATIVE ,DEROGATORY COMMENT PLEASE TELL ME ?

Try using this!
http://www.toolstation.com/shop/Heating/Central+Heating/Mechanical+Flange+2+14/d230/sd2708/p38614
Male part on the inside of the tank and the female on the outside. Then the element screws directly in ( with some PTF).
Had mine set to 65 degrees this morning, slightly warmer around the fitting than the rest of the tank.
No sign of warping or melting the plastic!
GO AHEAD AND GET IT DONE!!!!
I've earned more today than I have in the last week and half.

GOD BLESS IMMERSION HEATERS!

Steve

I am genuinely interested in what you have done and have sent you an email. Please don't take my previous comment as negative.

Best regards

Steve

If they see a post and think " oh not a good idea" to them... why would you leave a comment saying how bad or awful it is ..........   its not even about having an opinion ....... because if it was it would be a case of " its not for me but good luck" no not on here its knock one down knock them all down .......  berate, ridicule and even a form of bullying ?

I think its a great idea, I think people are genuinely concerned for gazza because he is fitting it for some one else for a very generous small charge(well done Gazza) but they are just warning if anything was to go wrong he could held liable, thats all, but as long as gazza wants to take that risk fair enough and good luck

it cleans better dont get me wrong its not about having piping hot boiling water that would crack glass...its about keeping your van, tank, pipes, pump, brushes free flowing without having weeks off for freezing weather ...ok if paths are bad snow etc then you cant but where you can you HAVE to ...... my wifes carpark for a big banking company dont even grit, if she falls they will say " oh well blame the weather.....all the crap about " customers slipping ..well if you have customers who tell you not to do the very job they have asked you to do sorry let them go.....since monday i have done 60 houses and 175 flats in one block and not one........one person said anything about the paths or walkways........i actually said to them all " hope its ok but im going to put some grit where ther water has gone " you know the response..." its ok you dont have to " i said no i dont want no slips ....they were over the moon....its called servicing my customers ...ive had the same ones for 8 years and ive not lost one though doing a bad job.....so all in all its not a baking hot tank of water but it keeps you working ....   id be more concerned about a 20 million pound hot water system that i have to have a gas bottle rattling about behind me when i drive ..which is sat right by my pump battery which lets of a spark every time my pumps goes on and off.....right next to a gas bottle :)

Steve, this idea of your's, or even if it was someone else's idea I don't care. I will tell you now is brilliant and within month's I just know that tank manufacturers or wfp suppliers will defo be selling tanks of all sizes with the option of the heated element. That is how good this idea is.
Eventually, they will channel the huge amount of heat from the exhaust manifold to the tank as well as a way of keeping the heat topped up throughout the day.

Already done it, did not work with the severe frost.

That was before we fitted the immersion heater though......

What gear did you use and how did you get the heat from the exhaust to tank?

some of the members on this forum really are idiots, this whole country is becoming a nanny state, cant do this cant do that, you arnt qualified to do this or that, you could be held liable, and half of the members on here arnt helping, if someone wants to offer a service leave it up to the individual to decide wether he (or she) wants to use that service.

There are some far better forums than this one, matts/jeffs :-X where the members try to "help" each other, instead of having attitudes.

You are offering a good service gazza, its a great idea, especially if you havnt earnt any money for the past couple of weeks, and dont feel comfortable doing it themselves.

Anyone would think hes rewiring a house, really its just like wiring in a plug, 3 wires.

keep up the good work mate.

first gear, sometimes second, just connect a hose pipe to exhaust and feed it into back of van through a small hole (works better with petrol engines)  :P

What gear did you use and how did you get the heat from the exhaust to tank?

We used a wfp pump to take water from the tank. This is then put through 50 meters of 10mm copper pipe(not cheap) which is coiled round the silencer box twice. The coil is wraped in insulating exhaust tape to stop the heat escaping from the pipe

We thought this might work to combat the frosty days but like I said it did not work on its own.

We will be fitting a heating element to the landy with the copper coil probably next week.

I will let you know how it works if you want
