gazza, what time did you start? no freezing on? i've just fit one in my 640ibc, hardest thing is getting the flange tight on the inside, i used one of them oil filter wrenches, mines a chain one. if anyone hasn't got a tool station near them, Plumb City sell the flange for £3.50

just waiting for it to fill up now, cos my water butt is a green ice cube! got th RO going straight to the van, i reckon another 150ltrs till it covers the element, managed to get it fitted around the 250-300ltrs mark. then i'll see if it's leaking. put some silicone round the 'big nut' flange on the actual element, and you can buy a special spanner/key for about £6 that fits over perfect. 2man job to fit it and tighten up.

Hi Ez.

went out around just after 9.30,...no , no freezing on glass all day,

first couple of hours is the best,...hose reel is soft,.. pole hose does not tangle,

But you need to get it heated up (the water)..... as at times it felt lovely and warm at the tank,..and came out cool......

Butits still well above freezing, i am going to leave it on longer from very early morning, unti 9am,

for even hotter water,... just lagged my tank too, that should keep a little heat in.

You have your element where mine is,... try to gauge your water so you get around 350 litres, ...then turn water off, ..

as this should be enough for the day,....it will heat quicker, and whats the point in wasting electricity, heating water you may not use.

As long as Gazza has proffesional indemnity for the advice and public liability for what he is doing for payment I can't see an issue.

I would recommend anyone who has it done checks these things and gets a receipt.

I can't see an issue even if he doesn't. There can't be many here who do not know he's not a qualified electrician offering a proffesional expert service. He's a window cleaner operating at DIY level and offering to help out some others at bareley cost price to help keep them working if they are not capable of doing it themselves.
Sometimes your head (colloquially) can be so stuck up the rule book it comes out the other end and misses all the facts.
He's just a window cleaner offering to help other window cleaners out, get a grip.

Hi Bud, am in wakefield.

Ok Thats a cool 400 mile trip for me lol

let me think about it! and by the way i think its really nice of you offering to help people out £95 is basically a favour you would be charging alot more if you wanted to profit and people would pay it too we all know what one week loss of work can cost the average window cleaner

So nice one mate!

So i dont know what i am doing... yet in your post (which has just been deleted, )you say its easy... hole drilled fit flange blah blah....

and anyone can do it,,,

if i dont know what i am doing how come i have now got a lagged tank with an element in, and i have had hot water this morning and warm water this afternoon,

No desrespect to steve,... meant at all,

yes i did ask more questions than anyone else on steves topic,

Thats how you learn mate,

Some guys will never fit anything of their own ever, ... so the offer of help  was there ......Amd as much as i like doing favours for people,... and i do lots and lots,

people on this forum are widespread , so i cant possibly drive up and down the country  fitting one here and there for nothing, so in effect its still a favour because very little profit involved,

But i aint about to start an argument on here with the guys who slag every little thing off  , either out of boredom,  jealousy or for any other reasons which grips them.

So the offer of help from me is withdrawn,... and if you would like  one fitting , my mate dean , who is also a cleaner, will be happy to help, although  his prices may be different i dont know.

he is dr clean... on this forum so anyone wanting will have to start a new thread with his name on.

Cheers to everyone who was interested , but get one fitted lads... its a cheap way of combatting this awful weather

Gazza what makes you think comments were made out of boredom or jealousy.

Mine were made out of a sense of responsibility.

For anyone who has already made the step of installing this.......

I have spoken to a qualified electrician regarding him fitting this into my static tank. He is happy to do the job but raised the issue of where to fit the immersion element. I suggested through the side of the tank approx 6 inches from the bottom (it's a 400 litre upright). He suggested that the heat from the element could possible melt the plastic wall of the tank unless it's far enough away from the wall.

Has anyone experienced this problem or can suggest the correct immersion element to use.

Thanks

i cant see that happening   the volume of  water would absorb the heat .
if you put it on with no water in then yes.
anyway from what ive herd you dont need the immersion on  full blast ,

The main concern is that the element might be in direct contact with the plastic.....

well i will use a 11" immersion with machanical flange , i will fit it 6" from the base of the tank through the side this way it will heat all the water not just the top half.
i will use ptf tape on the thread to help with the seal.
i cant see how it will melt the side of the tank as the amount of water in at the time .
i was going to do this last winter but bottled it coz a lecky said you cant just plug this in a normal socket , he said i needed a seprate line from the fuse box to it £££££.
steve has done it and it seems to have worked so im going for it .

then if i do get some money i will get a thermo heater from streamline , who knows maybe this will be all i need .
warm water has got to be easyer to clean the realy bad windows not so much scrubbing with the corner of the brush.
if it does work i will use it all year round.
