Cheap small ladder?
« on: December 07, 2010, 11:44:28 am »
Right, this is getting a bit too crap now.

One bad week was no problem, but I really should be getting something in this week, especially as next week looks no different. >:(

Wfp is useless due to freezing, and I'm all out of bungalows.
So... need a ladder.

My old trad work one won't fit in the van, so is there some decent inexpensive short ones about?
No longer than 6ft or so I think.

I won't be able to do three storey stuff, but that's hardly a regular problem, at least I'll be working.

Cheers Bobby, but was hoping there might be something cheap and cheerful that's good enough for a week or so really.

But thanks for being the one person to even bother to reply. Rude lot. ::)

Sorry squeaks - just got your thread. Been out working. Been out wfp'ing 3 days last week and one this week and looks like tomoz and onward is ok.

6ft ladder? Double or triple? Don't think they exist, that short. My 6ft single (for gates and high porches) is a cut down top section of an 8ft triple DIY.

If you've got a redundant ladder you could cut it down - but it's a one way street.
It's a game of three halves!

Depends how important it is to you to carry on working, but this one is £100 including vat and delivery and it is fitted with safety feet.

squeaky so its too icy and cold for wfp but your planning on risking your neck up a ladder like you used to!!madness if you ask me!! ;D ;D

ive been out for a few hours today again(-3) no wfp and ive not climbed a ladder at all!all top windows got cleaned(well the glass did!)bar 2 which were at an awkward angle to leave a decent finish with the squeegee.not earned that much but at least im ticking over and chipping away at my workload.(£130 for two short afternoons is hardly a kings ransom but its better than diddly squat!)

2 people on here saying WFP is a no go should read the threads of guys who are equipped adequately to work when water would normally freeze. Theres guys round Squeakys way WFPing I was last week and have been this week. It was a spell of cold weather 2 years ago when I had been WFP approaching 10 months that I decided the elements were going to have throw more at me than they were if they were going to stop me working. L5's are worth their weight in gold. I suggest if you haven't got one you get one to guarantee you a wage when we get the next spell of cold.

Theres more threads on the L5 mate than most things on here. A quick search will give you all the answers you need.

I don't know what an L5 is, but it sounds from the others like it's a water heater.

That won't stop water freezing on glass. It won't stay warm for half hour until it dries! ;D

In fact it'll freeze in seconds like cold water.

Squeaky mate, I bought an L5 last week and installed it myself (with a little help from the guys here) and Ive got 2 full days in this week so far and plan to work the rest of the week with no problems.

Its been around -1 or 2 here and its been fine and the water has frozen on the glass as you think it will.

You just need to allow a bit of extra time for scrimming doors and putting down the odd bit of salt where needed.

For the sake of a little more than the cost of some ladders, you can have one too ;D

It must be cold where you are if you don't think that you can wfp at all.  I've been working in temperatures of -5 or -6.  I go out with warm water, I don't have a heater on board, but the water will even clean conny windows.  I also take preventative action by emptying my tank back into my holding tank when I get home if I know that the temperatures will be sub zero.  You would be amazed what an L5 in the back of your van would do.  It's a lot of messing about but at least I'm not having to climb ladders.

Simon.

Had to use a ladder yesterday and it wasn't nice put a ladder stop and plenty salt down had to scrap a window after the water froze on glass no heating on in their house, but I cleaned my own windows WFP at 4pm in -3-to-5 added a glass of vodka to 25L of pure water no problems with freezing one or spots here and there but passable.Got to be better than using ladders, when ladders cost £120+ and a L5 heater £250 tops and you can work safely from the ground or get a few bottles of Vodka to get you through this rough patch  ;D
