something like this

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/AQUARIUM-300W-SUBMERSIBLE-FISH-TANK-HEATER-STAT-/150519359158?pt=UK_Pet_Supplies_Fish&hash=item230ba726b6

What i did was go to a local aquarium... see which ones they use in the tanks submersed and buy the same one. some can be submersed and others not

Price wise i never noticed anything really on the electric bill. Dropped them in around 10-11pm and out at 7-8am

some fish tanks don’t need any heating equipment, because they require other kind of conditions.

I have just in the last week bought a 300 watt fish tank heater and placed in my second barrel. It lifted the temp from 10 /c to twenty /c The butt is not insulated so  I do loose heat, I leave it on full time.Regarding power its the same a 3 light bulbs to give you an idea if you left on three lights all day would it brake your bank. Its keeps me productive so to me its worth it. One of these elements are made to work 270 litres of water. Hope this help. This ifmo is current to our weather at this moment.

I have a WEIPRO 1000watt titanium tube heater + digistat in my 2000l holding tank...I am keeping the water at 5 degs...which is enough to prevent freezing also the heat radiates and keeps my r/o system warm and toasty...I have chosen 5 deg's as this is enough to prevent freezing but still low enough not to use huge amounts of leccy.

Bought 2 x 300 watt aquarium heaters,
One in static, one in van tank overnight

Amazing transformation,
Hoses not snagging and they stay soft.

Brilliant.

If in doubt.....Leave it out !!
