For those worried about charging too much.
« on: November 29, 2010, 02:01:19 pm »
I popped into the supermarket on the way back from a job today.

there was a rug Doctor stand in there. I was amazed...
A/ How tiny those things are (first time I'd seen them) and

B/ The cost. What a rip off!

Yup, if you factor in the cost of petrol to pick up and return it, its near enough the same cost as hiring me to do your lounge.  Are they really that bad though on a lightly soiled carpet?

Did you notice how much they charge for the detergent, and it is detergent, and here lies the main problem. They put too much down, then the machine not powerful enough to pull it out - all that sticky residue in carpet means resoiling very quickly.
Now I know it might upset Wynne, but if they used colloidals then they might get away with it.

I forgot to add that they said 2 litres would clean 800 sq ft.

No wonder we find carpets that are completely bunged up with shampoo.

Yep, that's about the size of it Joe.

I did a job where someone had used a slug doctor the other week and the resoiling almost beggared belief! A cream living room carpet that was absolutely black. Worst case I have seen.

Thats why you hear alot of people/potenital customers saying "dont carpets get dirtier quicker once they are clean?"

Unfortuntly this myth is true if they use one of these pooty machines or get a crap "splash and dash" carpet cleaner in! And bad news travles quick! alot quicker than someone doing a good job!  ::)

Do you mean detergant in the tank to flush after a pre-spray? like double clean or Forumal90? or ultimate master?

These products are buffered, self neutralizing chems which dont leave any residue in the carpets.

or maybe i am confused with your question lol

Nope, i'm the old fashioned one  ;D alot of people now a days seem to clean with fresh water. I just prefer the belts and braces aproach on modarate to mingers. Infact even on cleanish carpets i use that method.
