Is it me or do so many posts end up saying about pro fitted systems? Its driving me mad!!!!!! Who cares if its a pro or a diy, at the end of the day it foes the same job but for nowhere near the price, its a tank that holds water with a pump that pumps it down a hose! Oh yeah but now we talk about all this crash testing!!!!!! What people forget is that these vans we drive around in have payloads for excactly that, they too have been tested so what's the difference between it bolting through the floor or being strapped down with ratchet straps? Ask yourself what do they use to secure loads on lorries? They don't bolt it down!!!!!!

the payload of a van tells you how much weight it can carry!
How that weight is secured into that van is a totally different matter.
If its not secured correctly and your in a serious accident you are in BIG trouble!!
same old same old.But its the law im afraid.

Yeah and vans have load securing lugs or reinfleced bolt holes to secure loads, they're there to be used! What law? You don't have to secure anything in a van of you don't want to.

Yes you do, there is a whole section in the road traffic act about it.

How do I know?  Because I was once pulled over by a copper when I was transporting some equipment in an old van.  He had a right go at me and was waving this big document (which was the road traffic act) around showing me the various regulations I was breaking.  (He seemed to know it backwards, so be warned!)

Google "road traffic act securing loads" or something similar, you'll see there is a whole section and a code of practice too.  The reason they take it so seriously is because you can become a real danger on the road if you get it wrong.

Thankfully he let me off with a warning and a stern talking to.

Nothing wrong with using straps or ratchets so long as they
Have correct rating AND they are fixed to a secure point.
NOT just bolted throuh the floor.
I use straps so I can remove the tank easily, but the anchor
Points are welded to the chassis

there should be anchor points in back of van that are welded and reinforced to chassis and you need to use them,If just bolt through thin metal if you have to stop suddenly your tank will rip the bolts out thats why they check seat belts at the MOT,But its up to you how you secure your load whether straps or bolted down

http://www.dft.gov.uk/pgr/roads/vehicles/vssafety/safetyloadsonvehicles.pdf

its a long read , but its the law,...

common sense would tell most people to secure any load ,

try hitting a wall at 40 mph, the van stops dead, the full tank will come through a bulkhead like it is cardboard,

and death will be instant.

dont need any law to tell me that.
