An old blanket? Good for warmth?
« on: November 27, 2010, 08:19:50 pm »
I need to think about insulating the pump in the van.  Would an old woolly blanket do the job if it's going to go to -5 tonight do you think?

-2.5 here, so off to check temp of RO.

I have a tempt gauge outside office window on ledge, so, as long as it's not in sunlight (rare at 1030 at night), it's accurate enough to say what's going on outside.

Other temp gauges in shed area, but have to go in person to check them, and if necessary put on heating devices.  Stuff in van like [pump is another matter - no way other than blankets to protect that.  Not worried about pole on van.

The blankets good.

If you can put a sheet of cardboard in the roof or above the reels that's good.

Most heat loss is radiated off.Conduction only really plays a part when you are parked up for over a day.

Last year i took the pump boards off, and sometimes the hose reels.

This year cover over roof of van, cardboard in internal roof space, cover over pumps and heater (the heater matrix doesn't like ice), and a fan heater on a very low setting thermostat.

Temp in garage was 1 below zero, and +0.1 inside the place where the RO is, so put heater on inside for the night.

It'll be ok.

Not sure about work next week tho'.

Friday morning my water froze on the glass.

Because i have a hot system and can always clear frozen pipes easily it still doesn't help. My transfer hose is frozen solid.

This weather is unprecedented- 17 years ago when conditions were last like this wfp did not exist.

I can't see us being able to work next week- period-.

I managed to do some work Saturday but I had to do the early work with a backpack until the dribble of water left in the pump unfroze (I drain the pipework as well as possible).  Van mount came into play after 11.
I have a pub/restaurant to do this morning in and out.  Only one job on today.  A couple of hours work.  Looks like I will need to backpack it for the outside and trad all doorways and vulnerable areas.  It's leaded too.  Not to worry.  They tell me I'm lucky to have a job  ;D .
