Its quite common for regulations to be different for commercial purposes compared for domestic reasons. This is one area where that is the case. I suggest you speak to the relevant authorities or those qualified to pass comment before making generalised suggestions or statements.

Caravaners often carry gas, you'd probably find a straight forward answer on one of their forums. They have probably been chattin about it for yrs.

We looked into them for our vans, but as I employ so many guys and have to conform to H&S regs, we are unable to put these types of ware heaters in any of our vans, (Told by our H&S and insurance company) we can't even put space heaters in our ware house.

That's dreadful. Of course it's not illegal. It is if you don't comply to the regulations that apply to carry these materials but a sweeping statement like that is dreadful. I'd say that's illegal to do what they've done. Underhand selling? False claims?

I have some understanding of this.

If you carry gas and any set up then it has to have a installers check done on it and insurers expect you to send them a copy of this. If you tell them your insurance may double - mine did!!! to 1400 per year.

If you don't tell them and then have an 'issue' you will be very much in the brown stuff because they wont pay out!!!

But he isn't doing that. He wants to have the gas bottle to heat water whilst working, for instant hot water. Is that correct??

If so it needs to be certificated.

                      this post is to do with a e-mail i got from ionics yesterday about there hot water thermopure system and they give a few reasons on how it can benifit you they then put SAFE-NO ILLEGAL GAS BOTTLES TO CARRY , i will forward a copy of the e-mail to you rob then you will see what i mean .

They are certainly refering to DIY there and the thread is definately about that. Sorry Matt!!

They are illegal if connected and used for heating water on the go, if the system is not certificated and your insurer does not know about it.

So I guess they can get away with the statement.

the thermopure doesnt use gas it runs on diesel i think
