It is actually. I feel sorry for the guy and his family, but you are facing this chance every time you go up the ladder. You can be as safe as you can be, and you can still fall of the ladder. It's only a matter of time and circumstance. I was one of the safety first guys when I was working off the ladders. Twice this could have been me. Not because of me, but because of other people being stupid. Murphy's law.

Iam one of those who bitched and moaned and slated those who where Wfp, thinking to my self what a bunch of girl thingys and amatures they were, after all i was previously a trad window cleaner through the 80s and 90s before i gave up and moved into the building trade.
So coming back into the window cleaning trade some 19 months ago i stumbled across ciu and began to read about the girl thingys who left all those spots on ppls windows, go wfp, not a chance in hell, i had previously had 3 ladder falls in my time and got up off the ground and got on with my work (even have a scar to prove it)
Well as time went by and the more i was reading up on wfp i started slowly to be converted over, two main reasons actually.
1 The higher earning aspect
2 Every time i went canvassing i could see that the home owner had a, A trad guy b, No window cleaner and c, A wfp windy.
And the wfp windows and frames always looked much better.
So eventually i took the plunge and went wfp,and really have never looked back
My point is this. IT COULD EASILY BE YOU NEXT! This guy had a lot of experiance but look where he is right now.
Even though it was'nt the safety aspect why i changed to wfp, i  NOW am seeing the safety aspects after reading many many like wise posts to this one,and iam glad i have changed over.
I just want to appeal to those trad guys reading this and say, please please swap over to wfp as soon as its possible.
My thoughts and prayers go out to this man and to his wife kids and parents.
I do not mean this is a bad way at all, but i wonder now if his wife and family wish he had converted over to wfp.

Just a thought cant we all have a collection for this guys family as christmas is near!
If we all donate the cash from 1 job or any amount you like it may help !
Someone from Clean it up could sort it out I think , what do you think?

I heard yesterday of a shiner around here who ended up in intensive care recently after falling off his ladder. He's out of hospital now but doesn't look likely he'll be back in the game, apparently his wife is very much against him going back out there.

If anyone knows the guys family mentioned by the OP please pass on regards.

Matt

As said, let's hope and pray that he will make a full recovery, and his family will get through what must be a very difficult time.

As a trad myself, I recognize the risks, but then we all take certain risks in other areas as well.
For example, do we all walk and drag or carry all our equipment to work rather than use our vehicles because of the number of accidents that happen on our roads every day?
