Used Truck Mounts - your opinions Please
« on: November 18, 2010, 07:34:14 am »
Used Truckmounts on the Alltec website the Steamway Sidekick 9100 at 4.5k or the Steamway 6100 at 1.5k

I know they are used and need some TLC but can you get spares for these?

The preferred is the more powerful one but what are your opinions on the power, etc?

theres a simple answer to your dilemma me old.

if your good with a spanner then to be honest, theres nothing to a truckmount, engine, blower and a few bits and bobs here and there to connect them all together. easy to repair, replace. repair jobs you don't famcy doing your self can be done by most mechanics.

if your not good with a spanner then buy new. your established so you should be able to work out if you can finance the extra cost.

don't forget to factor in that a 3 hour job will take 2 hours and your referal rate will increase (can of worms ;D) by a good percentage.

Thanks gents maybe its time to make some enquiries.
I have a SWB Van, I need to do some measuring also, don't see too much of a problem though.

Hello again Brian been a while since the NCCA Course mate?

Mark, I'm just interested at the moment need to convince myself if it's the right time to do it, also it has to be the right package at the right price.
Whats included tanks, hoses, hose reels pump out etc?
You could always e-mail me your package details and what sort of reasonable price you are thinking of.
Yes I'm shopping around for the best package/price

thanks again guys.

Your not that far from me (Coventry)
If you want to pop over for a day and see what a truck mount has to offer you are more than welcome.
ps Jim Neal came out with me for a day and what does he use now?
Brian Willis Had my Maxx 450d off me when he first got into the game.

lot of factors but mostly dryer carpets and the impression you leave on custy's that have not seen a truckmount in operation.

 ;D
trouble with truckmounts is gary, when you show it to a portable user your stood right next to it, and FM its noisy, but when your using it and in the house you seriously can't hear it over the noise from the airflow at the wand. ive only ever had one complaint and he was just a busy body, about 5 doors down, came over and said "that things shaking my house" so told him to get a builder in to check his foundations.  ;D

Again thanks for all your postings, I'm looking around to see what's about. NOT alot at the mo.
I probably buy a Truck mount if and when the right package comes along, well looked after TM, hoses , hose reels tanks etc at the right price of course. It's probably the wrong time of year.

Thanks for the invite Steve, I will take you up on that invite if we get a quieter period.
I was on the NCCA course with Brian 4 years ago now - nice chap and he said he had gone straight into a TM.
If you know anyone who is looking to sell a decent set up let me know, must have service history and well looked after of course, not mega bucks either. Starting off in the lower bracket end.
cheers gents.

Kieth,
Whatever TM you end up with, don't forget to make sure your vans gross vehicle weight is sufficient, it is not just about measurements. The gross vehicle weight is made up of the van and being everything being carried including the driver and passengers. Dont forget to allow for TM fuel and water too. Some have been caught out in the past, leading to having to change their van after the TM has been fitted in the unsuitable one, whilst others have had to pay heavy fines.

You can look at receipts to indicate regular oil changes/filters etc and agent servicing, but I think it's a bit like sports car clubs on here where you only have to mention a machine and someone knows the machine and more importantly the owners attitude to maintenance and how they use/abuse it.
It's not expensive, you just can't afford it.
