Is This Right?
« on: November 17, 2010, 03:51:30 pm »
Had the rep on the phone today from YP

Said he would do a deal for £46 a month for 10 months and I would have

Advert in YP
Top place on Yell.com
Something about 118/24-7
Something about Google.cant temember exactly what he said about the last 2 as I was falling a sleep listening to his patter.

Now given that Ive been paying £46 a week on ads in paper and getting bad responses is it worth talking to this guy again or is there going to be a catch?

Top place on yell.com is worth 1,000's to them, not part of £460 - so would be sceptical.

Look it's really quite straightforward.

You know your YP agent is lying when the are moving their jaw up and down. Simplz.

Well ive just it the bullet and went with yell.

Im getting a quarter column in the book and what they call a medium weight ad with yell.com for 750 pound inc vat

This is spread out over 10 months with first payment in jan.

I know some (a lot) will say save your money, but i felt i needed to give it a go.

I have had a few jobs from my free listing.

I would decide quick Wayne because i believe the book will be going to print soon.

Yell directories go to print and distribution at different times during the year according to the area.
Results have been on the decline during the last 5 years in most directories, inc Thomson Local and BT.
The only true advantage of being in Yell now. imo, is so that those repeat customers that do not keep, or lose your number, can find you.

Wayne it does not sound a lot as they break it down over the year ie 46 a month, trouble is the returns i m o will be very poor and after a few months of not getting much work you will begrudge paying any more and you are signed in to them for 12 months.

.Least with the papers you can pull out anytime mate..

I've got the same deal as Wayne-full colour in YP and heavyweight Yell advert but my bill is over £3k per annum.

Does it pay for itself? It sure does. Not directly measurable in terms of does completely new business cover the annual premiums (although it does) but also because repeat/referral clients coming in on the back of it and/or "they know who i am but just need to find me" both YP and Yell fit this purpose fantastically.

And I can measure this response by asking clients and also tracking business through that fantastic software "Cle***** M***.

Rog

But there again legnth of time established and the geographical and economic area covered by your edition of YP will also have a huge bearing on the response. So what works for me may not work for you.

Fintan,

Just got the the Golden Pages delivered yesterday, its less than half the size it used to be. So 2 things to thank the internet for, the demise of GP and...... well you know the other one.
