Not sure about the varistream as we do not use them but normally when our shurflo pumps start doing that it is the pressure switch needs replacing.

They are about £1.50 from Maplins and only a 10 min job to replace.

Sounds like a power problem. A flashing green light indicates low power!

How do you power it? leisure battery, direct van battery etc.?

I would have said the same
If i use mine for more than four hours without  stopping then i drain my battery and the light flashes
once i have run the engine for a while or if we move of to another job then its fine again

get the battery checked it might be the cold and its not holding its charge

Another problem that starts at this time of year (frosty) is algae blocking the strainer! Gets me every year. Grows in the summer & gets killed off by the cold thus leaving what it's stuck to & floating about in your tank/pipes etc. (that's my theory anyway).

Flashing green is a battery problem, however it can also mean too much voltage.  However seeing as the problem has shown up at this time of year I would reckon that the battery is on the way out.  Even if you think it's ok my advice is get it checked.  The only other power related problem would be dodgy connections either to fuse or battery.

Simon.
