I've just been watching this program on the catch up TV service.
I'm not convinced.
However, we may end up having no choice anyway.
In times gone by the gaps were plugged by stealing other nations' resources - effectively exporting the problem. We are probably seeing the final death throes of such a mentality though over the next few years as people worldwide are generally a bit more clued up these days. In addition to that, there are less resources to steal anyway.
It's all very well pointing to 19th century Britain as the nation's golden era. It wasn't if you were working class. The basic difference between Hong Kong and Britain is that in Britain's industrial revolution, the working class was heavily exploited. The mistrust has never gone away.
