i would like to switch our 500 plus customers over to standing orders.
where do we start. more importantly where did you start how did you tackle it?
i am thinking along the lines of a letter. has anyone got one?

                                          thanks dave. :)

I have never gone out collecting money. I started out with SAE and never gone back.Yes you get the odd one that holds back but over all i have a steady stream coming through the letter box each day.
Also got a few Bacs set up for the larger jobs and paypal for those that want it.

I have a very basic standing order form printed on letter headed paper.

Most people are happy to leave me a cheque outside, or they are home and pay me in cash, however I always offer standing order and give them a form if interested.

I'm only in my 3rd month of trading, so I'm still building up trust with customers and sorting out the one offs from the regulars, but as time goes on I hope to move as many people over to standing order as possible

for me its a mixture of cash on the day of clean/sae for cheques or online bank transfer with a few hours collecting once a week.

i doubt you will get all your custies to pay by one method.im finding a lot not wanting to bother with online payments at this point in time.i think that will change when they start phasing cheques out although it could be 8-10 years before they do!

i cant see me ever stopping SOME collecting.its good for custy relations and cashflow.

I dont see why you should not get most custies over to standing order, the only ones will be ones without bank accounts.
wheelie bin cleaning for example is often on standing order, So i do not see why window cleaning should be any harder to sort out. At the moment I like having flexibility to have days off, So would be concerned about people paying for a service i may of not provided.

You could try a "polite notice" on your slips.

I think you would struggle to get even half your customers on standing order.
