now winters here what precautions do you take regarding the machine/water etc
i have a ro machine in garage
tank etc in van
any tips would be helpfull for us trads who have been lured over to the dark side

Last year the ro was inside in the utility room so was all ok - this year it's in a shed, but unless it gets really cold it shouldn't freeze, just disconnect the pipes to stop the water freezing and expanding into the ro.
 
during winter i fill up the van in the late afternoon in case it's frozen in the morning and have a small oil filled rad on overnight. this keeps pipes and pump above freezing.

i shall put another one in the shed next to ro for really cold weather.
lastly lag any exposed pipes

the unit our static system is in is insulated and even last year didnt need a heat source to prevent freezing, in the vans its electric heaters, remember it doesnt need to be hot in there just above freezing is fine. this year we are adding hot systems to our vans so we dont loose days of work to the cold where a regular systems water would freeze in the hose and not come out of the brush.

Lag the ro with cylinder jackets or quilt hosepipe wit the pipe lagging from b and q tank and Jose reel in van the same worked a treat

i take everything in the house that i can including pole i leave the ro running on a low flow rate overnight into storage tank if its down to -3 any lower and i take ro in house had freeze twice last winter i have a PF trolley so a bit eaiser

come winter months, my di is removed from van and put indoors where my ro is anyway.
I street park and so not practical really to heat my van overnight.

solution

my van has only what needs to be in it, tank, pump, fixed reel and hose
a 25 ltr barrel of pre mixed anti freeze, when I know night time temp will be below freezing I shut off the tank feed and pump the anti freeze through the pump and hose reel. Following morning pump this back into barrel to be re used and connect up the tank and flush through for a couple of mins, works and never had a problem
