building height measurements
« on: October 23, 2010, 09:21:31 pm »
Anybody got any tips on how to work out the height of windows on a tall building? I've done it by counting bricks, but it's not always possible.

10ft per floor. Or throw a ball of string down.

depends on how old the building is,   i do a building that is only two floors, but have to use a 40 pole to get to the top windows,  use to be a old school,

Get a 45 degree set square.

Pace away from the building until, with one eye at one corner, the top and bottom of the building fit at the top and bottom of the set square (if that description makes sense).

Realise you've not been looking where you were going and disappear under a speeding bus.

Wake up in hospital end remember the number of paces you took, as that is equal to the height of the building (to within a few inches).

what I normally do is go to the building and pick the highest window and put my pole up till it gets to the window, if its short I know I need a extension, if I have sections left well it does not matter

Go in the entrance and ask the first person you see, "How tall is this building, please?"
