I use wfp and have protektacote on the floor.Seemed like a great idea but its not as tough as they make out and i soon noticed bits chipped out of it.
I've just bought another van and wondered what other options are out there.
I'd like to just put down an old carpet but we all know that spills are hard to avoid so that could start to smell.
I had ply lining in one van,which is ok as long as you dry it out regularly,otherwise you get mushrooms growing.

Any tips would be appreciated.

i use some rubber door mats that have been cable tied together to completely cover the floor, plus i do have p/coat on the floor.

my connect has a rubber floor liner that is a genuine for part, so its durable and water proof, have a look out for one on ebay for your van

I also have Protectakote down and think it's not all that good,when I started WFP I purchased a tin of the black tar stuff called Bitchumin from B&Q ,it's the tar stuff you put on roofs and to stick felt.
It is far more better and tougher and lasts a hell of a lot longer but is a pain to apply as it's very sticky but a fraction of the cost of Protectakote,I only had Protectakote down as my van was getting it fitted but would have rather got a tin of Bitchumin  if I knew Protectakote was'nt all that good,like everything else in the WFP industry is over priced and over rated

i also bought some waterproof bitchumen paint(17quid) for my van floor.the problem with it is it becomes sticky and comes off esp if its warm!i do have rubber matts down as well but the stuff sticks to everything!! : :

what do i have on my van floor?

last time i looked 6 empty crisp packets, 2 mars bar wrappers, 3 dime bar wrappers, a half pint of milk (opened and spilled over the floor) 3 newspapers and a wcp list (somewhere under the front seat) all that should keep the floor nice and dry.

i use cheap car mats - because i find that putting the hose reel back in the van wears and chips the protekta coat off - if money hadnt been tight i would have loved to get speedliner that many choose to go in the back of pick up trucks - pucker hardwearing but reckon around 400-600 to have done unless anyone knows of cheaper?

I found protectacote to be very hard wearing. I did my van prob 3 years ago and there's still hardly a mark or chip in the paint. Its all down to the prep work though, if you don't have the floor perfectly clean & the existing paintwork "keyed" then it won't stick properly.

The problem with rubber mats/ply lining etc is that spills can get under them & get trapped there,.. this allows rust to form much faster.

i go to my  local supplier that does horse boxes and get the mats that go in horse boxes very hard wearing  if i spill any water it just runs out ive got it in both of my vans and they have lasted for 4 years and still going strong

You only have two real options;
 Top of the line is speedliner, it's expensive and not really DIY unless you can work to virtually professional standards, but once done it will last the entire lifetime of the van.
Next best is fibreglass, again, extraordinarily hard wearing and will outlast the van.
DIY is fine, stinks like you wouldn't believe and your [gloved] hands end out looking like hairy hedgehogs

Speedliner is what? £400+ done professionally?

Fibreglass comes in at around £120+ for a DIY kit for a transit sized van.

Protectakote does not even come close to either of those two if you want a truly rugged and hard wearing waterproof surface.

If you have a system in your van that just about the only thing you are throwing around in the back are your poles then the likes of protectakote  are ideal.

If your hose reel is clunking around, along with back packs, trolley systems and numerous 25l containers then blow a ton at least on a Fibreglass system, I mean jeeze! Compared to15k on a shiny new van, it's really small potatoes innit?

Protectakote on the van floor and ply over the top. I dont have any leaks or puddles in my van so it works for me. If the ply did get soaked, just replace it. Got to be cheaper than fibreglass or speedliner.
