I think some people need to realise why some products cost more than others. If you buy for example a Gardiners Superlight you will be paying for a pole built specifically to clean windows - nothing else. It will probably be 100% carbon, have a reinforced top section and will be made to be used for the job and not for yanking carp out of the local pond.
Fishing poles can be made far cheaper as they will be mass produced - probably in China.
I've been down the fishing pole route and it was great ... at first. I patted myself on the back for saving a few bob but then nearly cried when I destroyed one section after another through clumsy use.

I don't think any manufacturer will reduce their prices to compete with DIY - they don't need to. They will always be able to shift quality products.
Have ionics reduced their systems to compete with DIY?
Have Omnipole reduced their vacs to compete with DIY

That's great and I see exactly where you are coming from. I just think it's a mistake to compare with the purpose built stuff and come to the conclusion that it should all cost the same.
Good luck to anyone who likes to invent ways of saving your hard earned dosh. I don't knock anyone for that.

I have the SL2 and it now gets used on one job once a month, I paid £800 just to have the capability of reaching 60ft.
Jeff B got to 80 ft plus with his DIY pole.
