What's Peter Fogwill's new water heater like?
« on: October 22, 2010, 03:46:32 pm »
I heard on here a while back that Peter was bringing out a new gas heater similar to the L5, but a plug and play system with frost protection on it.  Has anyone got it or seen it?  How much is it and what are the running costs?

Simon.

that well funny advert for ionics. any thought of putting a kettle element in their tank and plug it in could be a way of getting rid of the competition  :o

There's a bit of chat and info on Matts and Nats forums. I think it comes out next month around the £400 mark. Some members are concerned with the legality of the system and with the safety side of things. Best to contact Peter direct I reckon.

The frost protection system is a very good idea & is offered at a fantastic price too. I looked into getting a similar unit made for my L5 and was quoted £200 for the unit alone.

Hi Simon

For some reason I thought you went for a hot retro fit from Denis. Any idea what he is up to these days?

They shut down at the beginning of the year, due to financial reasons.

Denis went out of business, I was told by a friend that he bad suffered a heart attack. So he closed shop due to health reasons I believe.

£400 for a hot add on isn't too bad, especially with the frost protection. It's about 2 grand less than the rest.

Simon.

I've heard little so far about Peter's hot water system.

If this winter is going to be anything like as cold as last year, for an outlay of approx £400 I'd sure as hell like to hear more about from anyone has got one.

If it is possible to retro-fit to my own system then I'm going to look into this for my own selfish reasons.

Thank god we have people like Peter and Alex, both are innovative and cause genuine change and impact on the area of Water Fed Pole...

What I know so far is:

Its gas fired,.. based on the caravan heater type boiler I think, so similar to an L5 but with a CE mark and a case designed to take a flue/chimney.
Its battery powered (2 "D" sized ones normally) and automatically switches on and off as it senses water flow start & stop.
The frost protection system it seems is designed to switch the WFP pump on & off with the aid of a temperature sensor, so you simply leave the heater switched on at night with your hose flowing back to the tank. I guess Peter has had one designed to run for a set interval & reset, so that if for some reason the heater does not fire up first time, it'll attempt again a few minutes later if the temp has not already risen.
Peter is talking about selling it as a kit including all you need to vent it out the van roof,..
