Hi all 

Do any of you use bank transfers to get paid by your customers and is iy more success rate than those that pay by cheque?

currently i get cash only maybe the odd cheque and collect at time of clean or call back to collect..now my round is growing collections with some people are becoming a pain and wondering if the ones that i have to return to collect would go over ot making a bank transfer -

if you do use this system how speedy do you find your customers paying and how do you track who has paid etc.

any advise?...

i collect on day or call back at set time,  have some who use pay pal, but some pay that day and some take a few weeks

I use bank transfers. It is starting to look like that will end up being the method most of my customers use. The amount using this has gone from about 1% to around 10% this year alone.

Luckily I have very good custom built customer management software which makes this very easy for me to deal with.

I use bank transfers as an option to customers, It is very popular in some areas I work, around 70-80% pay this way in those areas, overall I recon around 40% pay this way, followed by cheque and then cash (If they are in, as I rarely collect)
It cost you nothing so go for it, If you have george for example its easy to keep track of payments.
It varies how quick people pay (as in anything). Some pay the same day, Others can be 1 week, 2 weeks even a month later.
I also offer nochex as a payment option so people can pay by card if they wish, This is stated on my site as being my least preferred option as it charges me to recieve payments and if I withdraw less than £50 it charges me again. Also it takes quite a few days to withdraw into my bank account, But it beats collecting and 4-6 customers a month use it.
With bank transfers the initial payment customers make will take around 3 days to reach your account, But after that it is almost instant, as soon as they make the transfer its in. I have a couple where payment is in before i get home (wish they were all like that!)

Hi Mark,
Some are just crap payers.
I take cash and cheques but prefer bank transfers. Those who never had any money or could not lay their hands on the cheque book, all went credit transfer because as they said it would help them.
I now have to send please push the button texts as a reminder, beats collecting though.
We just have to accept some people whatever the payment method will just take their time.

Do you have to make a note of which ones are paying by what? I dont want to be leaving a sae and then them go paying by bank transfer.

About 60% of my custys pay bank transfer. Most pay within 7 days... Prob about 80% of them. The others need a reminder.

I used to use a personal account and ask them to put the first line of their address as a reference. Some did it, most didn't and it was a pain chasing up who paid what and when.

I changed over to a business account and their address shows up when they have paid. Nice and easy to chase up the ones that haven't.

Each day I log onto the bank (well my wife does and emails me the name and payment amout). I then check it off as paid when I get home.

I leave a 'your windows have been cleaned' slip when I have cleaned their windows. It has my business name, bank name, account, sort code and space for the price.

Once cheques are gone, this will become more popular.

What I would do is when you go collecting, ask people if they use internet banking. If they say yes, then ask if they wouldn't mind paying that way (make up an excuse)

I told them my wife worked in an evening sometimes and it was getting hard for me to find someone to look after the kids while I went out collecting.

I think when cheques are discontinued, then card readers will become more affordable and more people will take up bank transfers.

Remember they don't have to be registered for internet banking... They can do it on the phone too if they have telephone banking set up. Most banks insist on this to be able to speak to them on the phone. Just a case of if they remember their passwords.

The ones that aren't home, leave a letter saying you are now offering internet / telephone banking payments. Tell each of them you will contact them regarding it or to contact you.

I use wcp and put in the notes to print on the worksheet I/B which tells me to leave a slip with details on.

All but 6 of my customers pay via internet banking....

I just believe that those who pay in time would do so whatever the method..and those who are late payers will pay late anyway.

I think its more to do with the person than the method.

WCP to keep a track of payments.

My Business Manager advise me to ask my customers to use this method of payment as for cheques you wait upto 5 days to clear and with the banks getting rid of cheques too.
Bank Transfer and Standard Order no one pays for this system of payment as it totally free.

But will it still be free when cheques has been faded out???
