update credit card fraud/wintecs
« on: October 17, 2010, 09:41:46 am »
after  finding out where my card was cloned  thanks wintecs,  i had an account opened at betfair, using the details that they held,  even the spelling mistake on my address they even got my date of birth wrong, as they never held this info,   but u will be pleased to know  that betfair are argueing it as they say i opened the account in london on the sunday   i live in cornwall,  even thought the info is wrong,  my bank has frozen all the money that betfair are saying i placed bets on

i used the place in 2 places only 1 had address details and shock i now ended up with a account at bet fair

do not use your card to purchase stuff, unless u can pay by paypal

What would have happened if you won the bets?

Using cards is safe, credit cards are insured for this sort of thing, and if using debit cards just check the online shop is card safe.

it will have pci compliance on it, meaning we are screened on a regular basis and advised on a more secure transaction by an out side company the bank uses if we were lacking in any area.

This is weird because if you make deposits with a card on betfair then you can only withdraw winnings to that card or you can ask for a cheque but that would need to be made out to the name on the card. The chancer thats cloned your card or used your details might not have been aware of this which maybe offers a clue to this being a low level chancers attempt at credit card fraud rather than a hi-tec attempt that would net some reward.
If you ring betfair customer services 0844 871 0000, i would imagine someone will explain how this works and you can ask them is there any other ways to get the money out if the bets had been winners. Its all online so somewhere is a trail.Betfair employ the best computer experts in the land as they are only an exchange so dont care who wins or loses but can have £30 million and more being traded on a game of golf so are constantly under attack from hackers demanding blackmail money if they can bring the site down. As they bet "in running or in play" this is there worst nightmare so employ the best to stop it happening. My guess is your bank is still undertaking their own investigations and you will soon be refunded and it will probably be betfairs savvy that has to spell it out to them. Good luck and maybe W*****s already know who has done it but of course they have to shout not-guilty as they dont want to admit any form of liability in this compensation age.

If you're interested, there IS a way to get the money out of Betfair.

Start an account in name A

Nick a credit card in name B and load up B's account - let's say with £1,000.

Keeping the maths simple, Account B is used to offer odds of 2.0 (equivalent to evens in a bookmaker) on a snooker match for a total liability of £1,000.  Account A matches it with a bet of £1000.

If player wins, account A has the £1000 that was in account B and can withdraw it.

If player loses, then account B now has £2,000 in it, so repeat with a bigger bet from the two accounts.

Eventually a bet will win and the money is transferred into account A and the money can be taken out.  Some has been lost in commission to Betfair, but so be it.

That's a simple way of getting your money out.  It leaves a massive audit trail, but the criminal is doing this with a bundle of accounts at once and hopes to disappear before being spotted.

bet fair have now shut the account  as of the other day when i reported it,  seems the bank is playing funny buggers,  they have taken the money  and are holding it,  i have also found out that a payment is pending for £1 in ohio usa on the old card that was cloned,  and they will look in to it  (muppets)

think i will be closing my account at barclays  and going some where else
