Builders Cleans

Hi Everyone.

This is Advice only

Anyone who is carrying out builders cleans or who is thinking of carrying out builders cleans. Please make sure that you carry a credit check out on the contractor who is supplying you the work.

We need to adopt the process that cleaning companies do across London, get a 50% deposit up front, as this should cover the wages for the cleaners. There is a lot of construction companies going bust, and stinging the contractors. And of course it will happen to the cleaning companies as well.

If we all adopt this process there should be no problem.

But you will get someone, cutting corners and trusting the building contractors, this will also cover you a little if you get kept waiting for 60 days or 90 days on payments made.

Please leave postive comments on the subject if you wish.

Hi Eugene,

That is an excellent post and idea.

We tend to stay away from builders cleans now, as in our early days, we nearly went under due to accounts outstanding from these kind of cleans. In total, I believe we have lost in the region of 8k, due to contractors going bust or shutting down over night and doing a disapearing act.

Everyone, should take this advice on board to protect your businesses.

Many Thanks

Andrew

We also do credit checks on our Developers too.
However we tend to give them a credit limit depending on their history with us and how much work we get from them and when they go over that limit we stop the work until the check comes through......or something like that as my accounts office deals with such things.
But yes, it is something that we all need to be aware of as it could effect our business continueing.

Regards

Hi Andrew / Tim

Thanks for the postive input to the comments i have put.

The company that got caught was owed around £46000 some this was for cleaning as well. They did manage to retreive £8000 as the site agents belonging to the company that they had done the work for knew that it was going under.

But the new company that took over sack the agents for paying the £8000 and they took small companies for around £850000.

Big companies do not give a poop about small companies, and thats why we need to protect ourselves.

We can carry out credit checks on companies it even gives the address of the directors, as these guys sit back in their big mansions laughing at it.
And you will find some where down the line they have opened a new company and do the same again.
