Its seriously getting an issue for me at the momment. Ive always been outstanding money but its starting to get beyond a joke.

Was promised a cheque this morning, ring them up and they put me on hold for over 5 mins, hung up, then gave me this stupid excuse that thier, yes, THEIR system mixed up invoices so its not ready. I said can i not just come down and get it. "no we will process it again friday now" ... so thats next week again. Seem ths same issue over and over again with these firms, "friday is processing cheques day" ... so why havent you processed it sooner! I give them 30 days, this is not asking alot is it?

Its not as if i aint done the work, i have! This is gonna push me over the edge soon. I only do big houses now and business, which altho is nice work most pay online or send me a cheque and they seem to be taking the mick outta me recently

These companies rely on bossing the subbies about,

if you have the time then go down to the custy - see the person who you delt with before you started the work,
and simply ask them this - Is there a problem with the quality of the clean ? was the work we agreed to do done
on time and correctly ?  - if the answer is yes then point out that terms are 30 days and its now 50+ please contact accounts and get them to draw up a cheque or organise the bacs payment.

If they were once good payers why not talk to the girl who replaced your contact.
Tell her it is causing you grief, how it used to be and see if she can improve your payments.
I would only walk away after this. Alternatively you could send a pro-former invoice in a week or two earlier and agree to do it the day the cheque is raised.

Im just going to drop it lee, i dislike the job, ever since that girl has left been a right mess. They asked me in the recession for a cheaper quote, wasnt happy about it but i dropped the price a little (and did a few less windows lol)

This particular job is going further and further downhill, so ill just drop.

Im not really complaining about the job in question. But its seems a regular occurence with buisnesses at the momment...pay as late as possible.

GET YOUR MONEY THEN ULTIMATUM TIME, IF THEY ARE EVEN A DAY LATE NEXT TIME GET RID. THATS WHAT I WOULD DO. HAD THE SAME THING SENSAE (LOL ALWAYS LOVED UR NAME) CUSTOMER RINGS ME UP ASKING FOR A BETTER DEAL, SO I KNOCK THE JOB DOWN FROM £105 TO 95, THEN EVERYTIME I WENT THEY KEPT MOVING THE GOALPOSTS OF EXACTLY WHAT I WAS DOING FOR THEM. SUCKED IT UP FOR A WHILE THEN GOT TO THE POINT I WAS DREADING GOING TO THE JOB, WAS GONNA DROP IT SO GAVE THEM A RIGHT TALKING TO OUTLINED EXACTLY WHAT I WOULD BE DOING AND FOR HOW MUCH, WORKED FOR ME THEY RESPECT ME ALOT MORE NOW. When I used to work for a large company when they had poor cashflow (quite often) they stopped paying non essentail invoices and only paid any non essential invoices if they screamed loud enough i.e. hassling the accounts dept twice a day.... sounds like your customer is doing this

If you giving account up then you got nowt to loose ... perhaps a phone call in the morning to remind them to write the cheque and then a call mid afternoon reminding them to put it in the post will make you a thorn in their side or even a personal visit is in order ?

btw sure you know this already but the "we only process cheques on such and such a day" is a big fat BLAG ... next excuse is always "sorry the Directors are all out and no one here to sign the cheque"

my cashflow is normally pretty good accept for august and january.collect once a week on monday or tuesday for an hour or so.sae/online bank transfer/cash on day of clean.

nearly all my work is domestic though.the commercial usually pay on the day in cash/cheque or i wait no longer than a week or two.

the problems your encountering mate are what puts me off larger commercial jobs.you probably make quite a bit more money than me but i have a strong steady cashflow and can always pay my bills.

im targeting bigger domestics and maybe the odd commercial but i want payment in cash/cheque within the week of the clean.

I have always stayed well clear of commercial work for this very reason. it may be well paid but it does not matter how much its worth if they dont pay.

Only now that I have enough domestic work to keep 2 van busy full time am I starting to look at commercial work.

The domestic is my bread and butter work and keeps us ticking over nicely with no problems, the other stuff will be the bonus.

But staying on the same thread but from another angle, I am trying to cut down bank charges and running costs, and as a result I am attempting to change how my customes pay.

I am about to inform them all that from now on I will be charging 50p if they pay by cheque, also we will no longer leave an envelope to forward payment.

The reason for this is to try and encourage as many as possible to pay online or set up a standing order.

I'm off to Ibiza today so needed to get some cash in from my custies to pay for dd's while I'm away. So last night I went with intention of collecting £200. Well I managed £120 which wasn't too bad really.

Think what has happened past few months, my father has taken over most of my little domestics. That used to always keep me ticking over and commercial was my bonus.

Yes they are good amounts but you have to wait so as said not always worth it.

Gonna have a majour sort out soon. Take a good look at it all, manage it all better. Good to keep on top of it all aint it.
