Ive heard it all now
« on: September 30, 2010, 07:28:03 pm »

A hot-water system costing £5,400

PLUS!!!

fitting

PLUS!!

V.A.T.

IMO that is as good a rip-off as you are ever likely to see.

This is from a W.F.P. supply company 5 miles from me.

As with window cleaning, suppliers have hidden costs too (mainly premises and wages I imagine).
It would be wrong to just add up what the bits cost and tack on a decent wage for someone to do the work.

I know what is a more reasonable figure Ewan, IMO a simple water heater doesn't top out at 7K, a boiler that heats your house costs approx 8 - 900 squid (plus the labour of a registered gas-fitter for a day). This is plainly a rip-off there can be no doubt about it.

I went to these guys when I was first contemplating a van-mount system, they wanted £500 to fit a split charge relay. When I queried the figure they reckoned it would need to be in the garage for a day and their mechanic wanted £300 to do it  ;D ;D

Just done a quick google search.

Their paperwork says they use an Eberspacher Hydronic water heater

which start at £250 according to the google search results page  ;)

But how much should these things cost, you haven’t mentioned a price what would be a fairer price?

Difficult to define fairer?
Two well known proffesional suppliers prices for a 'standard' single 40' RO 650 ltr van mount fitted....
Supplier (a) £3995
Supplier (b) £2100

Supplier (a) also sells a fitted single 40' RO van mount that is heated for 7k.
Supplier (b) doesn't do one.

My guess, based on no more than plucking a figure out the air is that it should easily be possible to have a fitted heated system similar to above for 3.5K.

That's what every high flyer says on this site when they realise they have just blown their savings on a load of overpriced tat.

At least you got a price ;D We asked for a "quote" for something about 6 years ago and we're still waiting for the price ::) So long ago forgot what it was now
