The 'Green Gravy Train

I have a number of competitors who have slapped green decals on their van and calling theselves green.
I don't believe for one minute most of the greenies can advertise at all without falling foul of one of these guidelines and therefore open to investigation.

If a company is doing what they can then yes i believe that they can say they are green compared to other.
ie using recycled paper, driving efficiently, using non petrochemical products, using local suppliers, using local people for staff, booking jobs in around each other to reduce travel.
Reduce
Recycle
Re use

Unfortunately saying 'I do my best' probably won't cut it. Nor is showing them the green label on some overpriced product.
From their site:
'Get your facts right. Don’t exaggerate the environmental benefits of your product: advertising claims should be backed up with
documentary evidence

never over exagerate anything. We have been runner ups for local sustainability awards so we must be doing something right. it is not only about what products you use that is the easy bit. it is about reducing your impact as much as you can where you can!

if you travel to an area to clean a carpet that has another carpet cleaner that could do that same job you cannot call yourself 'green' because your journey in your gas guzzling van was totally unnecessary
because of this fact I believe
"I am the greenest carpet cleaner on this site"
I use exactly the same cleaning agent as the green cleaners but were they travel miles to do their cleaning I only travel usually a max of 3=4miles.
i even refuse to travel too far because of my commitment to saving our fragile planet

people are missing the great bit about being green. it's not reducing your waste, saving the planet non-sense but something else. anyone want to take a guess?

You are right, most have missed the point,
it's the customers choice to have green in their home, bull fodder to what you do all they want is a green home and if you get to their premises in a tractor or a jet they don't give a sausage.

shaun kind of has it, customer like the green products so you use green products and the customer uses you.
i don't know about other companies but we don't charge a premium for being green, just one simple price no matter the chemicals used (i'm not talking about carpet cleaning here as currently it's subbed out so it's his prices, but when i do i'll have one set price).
although my opinion may be biased as i'm currently only trading under a green name but i find customers are more concerned about what chemical gets used then before. they like knowing that we'll be leaving the house safer for them to be in then if someone had come in and used a load of toxic products.
that's simply it. it's not about saving the planet but keeping the property clean, and customers think we'll be leaving it cleaner then anyone else, which is why you're there after all
