ladder stand offs
« on: August 29, 2010, 08:02:31 am »
i have a stand off but dont use it for day to day work as it would get in the way carrying it round the back of houses.(satellite dishes for starters would get banged) But i have seen a few cleaners round my way who have the standoff on all the time and of course that makes doing the higher windows that bit easier
i see the downside of a standoff being that if you only have a small bit of wall available the standoff will not allow you to place the ladder as it is too wide

im starting to think i could make or modify a standoff to make it narrower so it is the same width as my ladder.  has anybody done this? or seen one ?

If the standoff was the same width as your ladder it would be dangerous. If you lean slightly to one side or the other the turning forces would make the ladder twist round 180  degrees & you'd fall,..

i guess i havent thought it through properly yet . all the standoffs i have seen are designed to enable you to do gutters but for window cleaning im thinking i only need it to hold the ladder away from the wall a few inches more than the depth of a window sill .
