Rain, w.f.p & Dirt
« on: August 27, 2010, 07:44:49 am »
hi guys

ive been going for just iver a year now, and ive something i'd like to run over with the more experience cleaners
basiaclly ive got this one house i clean w.f.p. i started trad and cleaned it trad for nearly a year.

But now everytime i turn up the owner (a very nice agreeable lady i might add!) is always complaining about "spotting"
i think she's now had enough because this time she's phoned me after the last clean (i offer 48 hours garentee) saying

"it looks like its rained on them leaving them dirty"

now this is a two fold question except for extra rinsing is there anything you can do to stop spotting or are some windows doomed to be cleaned trad for ever? by the way ive been boing them w.f.p nearly 6 months roughly!

questions 2, this got me thinking about rain and dirt. do you think rain get windows dirty?

sorry to drag this out, i welcome all responses

many thanks in advance, G.B

G.B have you inspected the windows to make sure its not hard water marks already on the windows?

do the windows that spot have oxidised frames?(wet finger test!)

are they wooden windows?

make sure its not on the inside windows!! ;)

do you rinse 2 inches from top of frame?

ask them do they clean their windows in between you doing them and ask them what with.

are the windows situated near a main road?

if you ve eliminated all the above i would trad bottoms and wfp tops.

dazmond(by the way 11 weeks wfp now!)
price higher/work harder!

@ dazi dont know what oxidised frames are?!  ???

i did used to do them trad and as i recall i dont think they hda hard water marks on them, but i cant be 100% on this!

they are upvc frames(white)

i doubt its on the insaide but again i cant be 100% on this either

when i rinse glass i rinse from the top of the glass

they dont clean them inbetween me doing them as far as i know again cant be 100% but doubt it very much mate!

there not on a main road!

i already do clean all my houses wfp top trad bottom!

some good ideas there mate thanks once again, GB

Spots can only come from dirty water running down. really speaking its as simple as that. You have to just find out how/why its happening.
But milky frames can be persistant, some stop after a couple of cleans others don't.

i really dont think rain itself makes windows dirty i clean in the
rain these days(yuck) and most of the time its fine.

but on busy rds where the wind is gusting and its raining i have
had problems with windows spotting

i rain harvest by the way, 3ppm i use and in normal circumstances
never a prob

Hi,

I have a conservatory that I had done for 4 years WFP and it still leaves trails of white spots on each window pane. I have cleaned the UPVC with a cleaner, I rinse well but its the same thing everytime. I am just resigned to drying the frames and blading the windows.
Funny thing is that there is no spotting when I arrive, so any rain on the windows and UPVC in the meantime hasn't reacted the same way.
My water over the years in usually at 0000 but has been up at 0004. I have also tested the TDS meter with ppm solution at a know ppm and it over reads by 0001 point.

I think that there are just some windows that don't like WFP. So you may either have to go back to trad on that one, or past the customer onto a trad cleaner.
