Check you £1 coins ... fakes
« on: August 15, 2010, 11:03:39 am »
Just checked mine out of £80 found only the £1.  :(

Way to do it is to hold coin between finger and thumb with the front face up right way then spin it around and the queen should also be the right way up too.

The latin embossing around the egde may be faded but mine looks ok.

The colour is not quite right .... mine is a little to yellow

They feel wrong ... mine is a little too smooth.

Colour is not a reliable guide - they all vary in colour.

I read an article about fake £1 coins a while back somewhere, apparently they are very common, as people tend to not examine them closely so they're an easy target to fake.

The article that I read said to check the ridge/lined pattern on the coin edge, fake coins tend to have a smooth outer edge apparently.

Tax avoidance is fine.
It's tax evasion that's illegal.
One way to avoid tax is to spend everything bar £6k a year on your business.
