Rounds for sale?
« on: August 15, 2010, 12:13:16 am »
How long does anyone think it will be before no one will buy a round? Well maybe not buy a round but not pay stupid money for one.I say this as years ago when rounds where sold you sort of bought a round for the area and no one else cleaned in the area, but not so now. Now you buy a round and you may only have half of one side of the street, one close off it not the one opposite. All the way to the end of the road and not the right hand side, or straight over but not the left etc.. i've noticed that in general rounds are becoming very fragmented which leaves them suceptible to breakdown.
I suppose if you look at what someone is willing to pay for example 5X monthly clean it gives you an idea at how low he can go to make a living in the long term. Personally i think its like the stock market, if you're thinking your round is gonna provide your pension you might be best to cash it in now !!! I recon its days are numbered.

I think people are window cleaners to pay there bills!
I also think that 5x the value isnt much really if somebody has built up a round over a few years.
Someone who is earning 4k a month for 20k is nothing as at the end of the day how many jobs pay 4k a month???
If anyone has a round that pulled in say 4k a month would be mad to sell it and retire,i would just pay someone to do it and keep a nice tidy profit!

You mean 'taking' 4 k a month?
Ok, why arn't job centre plus selling jobs or do you think thats the way its going to go? Also why pay 5x when you can canvass for 0.5x ?

People pay money for established businesses.Of course anyone can canvas for a round but it is becoming increasingly competative,as you have stated, and therefore finding customers is not allways an easier option than buying an established round.
Just take a look in Daltons weekly to get an idea of what people will pay for businesses and it puts the whole case of what to charge for a window cleaning round into perspective.
The value of rounds in the past IMO was not based on the true worth of the business but based on the values of being a window cleaner in general, but now businesses are being built that are professionally run and therefore should command much better value for the owner at the point of sale.Of course there will allways be rounds for sale at 2-3 times the monthly turnover, but i bet a lot of them are based on prices from a bygone era.
