Saw something crazy today.
« on: August 11, 2010, 06:55:58 pm »
I was at my first customers today just getting paid. The customer was talking to me but staring over the road, finally he said "Cor  look at that"

The house over the road was a pre 1920s detatched house, on the very top of the roof stood a man with a pressure washer cleaning the roof.
It was a high roof too and quite steep yet he was strolling around without a care in the world. He wasn't some young kid either, quite an old bloke with a bald head. Old fashioned bib and brace overalls.

It never ceases to amaze me what some people find acceptable as a way of earning a living.

Where I live, I saw the exact same thing last Friday.

It's obviously catching on ;D ;D
The pen is mightier than the sword (and a lot easier to write with!)

The only thing this man had going for him was that he looked relaxed and totally at ease. If he had been tense he probably would have fallen off.

Not a mile from where this happened a paddy fell off a roof last week and they had to get the air ambulance out to him. He's in a bad way I'm told.

I still see people working on roofs all the time without scaffolding. It puts the window cleaning debate into perspective. About eight doors down from me they have just re-roofed a house working only from a single tower. This is totally illegal as well as stupid. Why aren't H&S jumping all over these cowboys?

Just before xmas as the snow was just starting i saw someone pressure washing a roof strolling about without a care and he would dissapear into his van when the snow got too heavy only to come out and blast the snow off the roof and start cleaning again.
Either he some kind of gravity defying top secret NASA boots on or he was just plain loopy,i think the latter.

I agree that it is stupid and not just dangerous to them but anyone walking close by but what really makes them cowboys is the use of a pressure washer on a roof.

My god how awful is that ?

Doesn't he know he will loosen slates by removing the dirt from between them, the very dirt that bonds the roof together?

Will he be found with his insurance in five or six years when the roof rots through the damp he caused?

Will he comfort the neighbours family when old grandad gets struck by a flying slate?

And what about the foundations what about them when they are flooded with his excess water. Has he cleared the gutters and downpipes BEFORE he starts spraying gallons of water everywhere?

No of course not, because he doesn't know what he is doing, the money grabbing roof wrecking danger man, professional eh? He couldn't even spell it!
