Hi I'm a windowcleaner really, but I've been offered a contract as long as I do some domestic cleaning with it.  Light stuff vacuuming, cleaning a few toilets, bathrooms and offices, about 10 hours per week.
I can't spare the time for the cleaning.  do you think it is ok to put someone in to do the job for me, on a self employed basis, even though I'm supplying materials to do the job.  Hopefully the right person would already be self employed wanting a bit extra.  any advice would be appreciated.

As discussed earlier you won't be able to take on a 'self employed' cleaner due to the issues already raised.
Why not ask around your friends and family and see if any of them want  to earn a little extra or put an ad in the paper and see where it leads. Don't do it yourself ( as a window cleaner you earn enough already 0, but  why not put someone in there and see where it leads.

Maybe if they supply the materials and I take a small slice of the profit.
Do you think that's ok.  I don't want to get involved with Employer's liability stuff, sick pay, holiday pay, pregnant pay, grumpy stayinbed pay, it will kill me for 10 hour a week 1 employee.  Surely that nice Mr Taxman will understand?

That nice Mr Taxman won't be so nice if you don't get involved with the aforementioned stuff! As mentioned in a previous post, if you put someone into as job on a regular basis they are your employee, so u r liable for all that comes with it!

Don't be hasty - sub the contract or 'sell' the contact.  Find a commercial cleaning company near to you and ask them if they want to take on the work as a sub or buy the contact name, possibly trade the name for names of companies they have that need window cleaning?

You will still need insurance for sub contracting but not employer liability.

I am still reviewing the situation.  Subbing sounds a possibility.  If I make sure they have public liability ins, is the rest up to them?

If you sub then their liability ins must be the same amount as yours or higher.  You will be the one invoicing the client so will hold overall responsibility for the contract and no doubt the client will liase with you when/if any problems occur.

The sub will need to supply their own equipment, staff it, carry out the day to day running to your spec and of course invoice you.
