after losing a custy yesterday due to him believing that the pure water would damage the wooden windows(georgian) over time.is there any truth in it?

ive got quite a few big country houses with wooden windows.nobody else has mentioned this YET!these type of houses were a pain to clean off ladders so im not going back to trad!

dont want to lose these as some are good paying jobs! :

am i worrying about nothing?PVCu windows are no problem!wooden windows?im not so sure now!!

No truth in it whatsoever. Poorly maintained wooded frames will rot anyway, it's not your fault they're too tight / lazy to look after their property.

andy it is a listed building and the owners are  wealthy.i had cleaned for them for a few years.good payers just a bit fussy from time to time!

I have dozens of customers with wooden framed windows, I only clean the glass on these, the reason is, I cannot see if the frames are leaking sap and when you spend £40 for a brush head the last thing you want is a knackered brush.
But with regards to pure water rotting wooden frames is a myth. damp environment is the worst culprit for rotting the frames. If the frames are cracked then the water that runs down the window will sit in any of the cracks, then soaks into the wood.

other wc who do trad saying i wouldnt let them use it on wooded windows it destroys them and they then tell there friends etc

its like when u get a wc who just uses tap water and no resin and leaves the windows dirty and spotty,  peopel then think it is a crap system

simply just get over it! so you lost a job! as long as you know you did a good job - which you did, then it doesnt matter.

Hi,

pure water is used to clean windows and if anybody say this is not true than what they do when raining or in cold weather when some moisture is there on window so you can use the wooden window they are perfect.

i had this asked me once and simply replied i wet your frames once a month and it would rain on them more than that.i said this a bit more diplomaticly as to not make them look stupid.

I have a customer that I'm going to today (georgian windows) who always moans about the water running down the brick work - She thinks it might do damage to the bricks.

I once said to her I would stop cleaning her windows if she was that worried about it, but she wants me to carry on. I think shes just a bit fussy.

UPVC is not that common here in Holland at least where I am, the norm for replacement windows is double glazed units with wooden frames...no issues I can think of except when the paint breaks down....

i have also lst the odd custy because they think their wooden frames will rot. I simply tell antone who asks this question its the same as it raining on your frames. My own house has wooden giorgan windows and they`re not getting damaged

I used to have a job that had georgian sash windows that i did trad for a couple of years before i went to wfp.
The paint on the wooden windows on the south side degraded quicker than elsewhere within 6 months or so. Not loads but noticable up close.
I just used to avoid cleaning those frames each time. Everywhere else the painted frames were fine.
I did this place for 4 years or so before they moved and never got the new owners signed up.
A poor paint job is the main reason for degraded frames.

You will cause them to deteriorate faster with the brush if they are already peeling. You just brush loads of flakes off and crack them more.

Not that it stops me, but it aint no good for them once they start to go.

isnt rain water pure or almost pure?so how can u damage windows with clean detergent free water?

Decoraters tell customers this.They also say the water takes render off the walls when it freezes.

Window cleaners are not scientists, but neither are decorators.They want an excuse for why their job needs doing again so soon.

if the condition of the frames are in a poor condition
that has nothing to do with your method of cleaning the windows
