Good evening all.

I am thinking of buying the sebo duo but would like some thoughts first. Is it a good investment I mean are the results significantly better than a rake or brush which is what I currently use and am happy is it a case of it if ain't broke don't fix it!? But I am always willing to try something new so can I have the opinions of both users without trying to open up a can of worms

hi rich, i enquired about the duo last week and spoke to someone who is highly regarded in our industry. He seems to think they are 'a bit lightweight' and told me to save up for a envirodri as these are the absolute quality, although they cost 1K!!

There is nothing like the Envirodri GEN4 for agitation, (I'm a serious fanboy of them), however whilst not in the same league (or price bracket) the Sebo Duo is very, very, good.   I would think you'd notice a big difference in agitation performance and results over a rake.   The benefit of the Duo is also that they are about 1/10 the weight of the GEN4.

Hi Rich,

The Sebo Duo is certainly easier on the arms than using a rake or brush, but is lightweight compared to an Envirodry.
You could also consider the Oreck Orbiter with either the Black Brush or a Drive Board and Pad.
Where abouts in Wiltshire are you, as I could let you have a loan of my spare Sebo Duo to give it a try, before you buy a new one if you like.

I put my Envirodri up there with my best / favourite kit.

Speak to Envirodri and buy a reconditioned one. If none in stock ask them to email you as and when. We did this and had one in a week. Couldn't live without it now!

Oreck Oritor's a little bit more money than a Duo and it is a versatile bit of kit....

It's great on stairs too and if needs be, stick a pad on to make carpets that little bit drier after HWE..... Best £400 I ever spent

I have 3 month old Sebo that i bought from RestoreMate. Its never been used! i still have all the packaging etc etc

Its surplus to requirements as i managed to get my 4 year old one fixed

I'll email you pics if you like? You'll see how immaculate it is from the pics lol

Price £180 + plus postage (unless you fancy a trip the Edinburgh think they are £200 + VAT brand new.

Comparing a sebo to a enviro is silly as the price gap is HUGE! like £1000 more! lol plus they weigh a ton. Its like saying "is a Corsa any good? yeah but a Range Rover Sport is much better!" 

The main benefit of a sebo is that they are aload easier on your back and arms than a brush is!

I have to ask.... Do you Envirodri guys use it on EVERY job?

I have the use of a similar machine for school carpets and it is an awesome bit of kit, but I'd be laid up 6 months of the year with a bad back if I had to use it in every home!

sebos are great fot starters. Hate getting the gunge out of them though. It's better than a brush but it depends who's behind the brush I suppose.

Get a second hand one they are very expensive for what they are, you could buy a fair few pints for the price of a new one.

No Colin I dont use CarpetGard (Flexi5) on EVERY job.
If its a small room and not too bad I will brush.
Now I have the Oreck Orbiter (kindness of Mike Haliday) I may use soley that - especially if its not bad but some heavy stains.

Use the Envirdri on every job.  You 'couldn't not' once you have one. 

Well Tony's done his sales pitch so I'll do mine  ; have a 3 week old as-new Envirodri for sale in the 'for sale' seciton........ Bargain!   Replaced only because I've just bought a Host Freestyle.

Thanks for all your thoughts and links. I have checked ot the envirodri and as much as it looks like an awesome bit of kit i don't think I can justify spending that much money at present. I am happy with the results I achieve but it would be good to upgrade where possible. The main area I struggle with seems to be the dark patches in front of sofas and main traffic areas although after reading a recent post on here I know it is usually down to wear and tear of the carpets, however I do wonder how much improved results might be with a better form of agitation

What chems are you using Rich?? Did you leave a good dewell time on the pre-spray?

As for the bobble sock problem or sock dye as some call it. This is a right pain in the tits to remove! a carper cleaners nightmare etc etc well it is mine anyways! lol very common in bedrooms.

If you where to put the carpet under a microscope, you'd see little strades of sock fabric "intertwinded" on the carpet fibers... like velcro!
The best way i have found that removes it is using a stiff hand brush and give it a good rub!  the carpet that is!! lol wax on wax off style!
Obviously, make sure its not the type of carpet that will "fluff up".

Good move mate, stick to the brush, you don't need all that fancy kit, just put yer back into it, keep the beer gut down and is eco friendly.
